I totally understand your point! The most disappointing point of this is they gave us these items for free, and turned around to started selling this to us $5 ea. I can't believe people aren't more upset about this tbh.
As a legacy player myself, as long as it is not pay2win gear and such then I really do not care what vanity items they add to the cash shop. Whatever vanity items I already received from past events I still have...it does not matter to me if someone else now gets the option of buying the same as me. It does me no harm whatsoever and my ego is not so fragile that someone else paying to have same vanity item as me would destroy my ego, I still have what I earned previously in-game and if they want to pay to get that same non-pay2win stuff then that's up to them.

But that isn't the case; it was only free if you paid your $15 subscription at the time. People who weren't subscribers at that time had no way to get these items (linked to the previous post).
To be honest, I suppose I would be more concerned with the items that are cash-shop exclusive, as now there won't be any way to earn them in-game... but I suppose that's like the bonus items that come with soundtracks, limited editions, pre-orders and so on.
I think this is a good thing. SE lost a lot of money fixing this game (rightfully so) and if they can some how tap into additional revenue and there's a demand.... then it's win-win. The game is amazing and they deserve to make as much money as they can so we in turn can contunue enjoying great updates, content, and more. It's investing in our game.
And just like all the events before this one right now, if it wasn't for the cash shop, they would have added them to the NPC vendor. But they won't be doing that ever again now, it seems, because they can just charge you $5 per item for it instead.
If there has to 100% be a cash shop in the game, this is the way I would like it done. Just selling old seasonal items from last years events to newer players if they want them for glamour or something. I think it works out well for everyone. SE get money. Players don't have to pay. New players get access to vanity gear they would otherwise have not been able to receive, if you're on holiday for a duration of a seasonal event you can purchase the stuff instead too later on. Players still have the quests in the journal and the achievements to show they did them along side veteran rewards to show how long they have been playing the game. Rewards given to Legacy players, the Goobbue, Legacy Chocobo and Legacy Tattoo in particular should not, and never should be on the Cash Shop.
I'd much much prefer that over them selling "Cash Shop Exclusive" items, such as it is currently planned with the 3 Minions and Slepnir.
SE is really playing a risky card with this. As far as it sounds from what Yoshida had been saying FFXIV was very successful and was not struggling in anyway. To throw this in and upset a sizeable portion of your players for a bit of extra money? I don't know if that was a wise decision. I imagine it can from powers above Yoshi.

I personally have no issue with old costumes being sold this way. They were avaible for free for a limited seasonal time, if you missed the chance to get them you simply have to pay extra. I see this as a way to clear up uneeded npcs that in a few years would have to sell hundreds of items. However i think $5 is a bit excessive, $1 each (or bundle?) would be more acceptable.
that isnt entirely true, I never got the pumpkin heads and I'm offered them because I completed the quest that offered the ghost costume
I 100% support the shop and selling past items, Thank you SE <3
