Cash Shop a sign of free to play?

I ask this because of other games I've played, will it be just mounts, minions and past event items? or will it snowball into bigger things? I'd like everyones opinions, I personaly don't care for a cash shop myself, it all started with the fantaisia then the retainers, I myself use retainers and they are pretty much full of crafting mats.

I've seen games that was pay to play then switched to free to play, then you got those that has a sub and a free model and they started with a cash shop, the game that started pay to play then switched to the duel model was made by sony, do I play it now? no, why? it's because when the cash shop was first added it was just small non-game effecting items, then "Evil" items, major str, def ect buffs, then they added a free model that limited mostly everything, like how much of the in-game money you can use without paying real money to access it, I'm not saying SE will do this. but without paypal being accepted as a payment method for going on 3 weeks now (btw I have 16 days left to my sub so I'll lose my 2 extra retainers) my question is does SE have a bigger plan in mind in the future like a free to play model and using mounts, minions and past event items as a test to see if a free to play model would pay off? I won't lie I'm a little worried, and if it does go free to play, it'll be like the rest of the free to play games I've played I won't be playing, do you see this game going free to play? voice your opinion let SE know how you feel.

It sounds intrusive, but I really can't see FFXIV going free-to-play. This is SE we're talking about. I think they'd rather suddenly shut down the servers than let the game go F2P ... @_@

Other P2P games had Race changes available elsewhere, that's the norm for that.
Until they eventually went F2P lol.

I could of swore someone said that Yoshi was thinking about a F2P type of model...and a P2P type of thing too...
Maybe do something like TERA does or whatever...not sure, long time ago where I read it.

Good point, I only played WoW for maybe 5 min of the free trial and said this isn't the game for me.
