Stop pulling numbers out of thin air. You can check the number of ACTIVE characters, not accounts on FFXIAH... and it's well under 500k.
Before the level cap raise, there wasn't a whole lot that you could solo and even then, you could only do it with a select few jobs with specific gear, specific stats and specific macros. Again, FFXIV is much much much easier to level in and much faster, if you do it correctly, compared to correctly leveling in FFXI. Remember those leve exploits you mentioned about 14? Yeah, there was an "exploit," as you claim, in XI called summoner burns which is probably what you did to get your levels.you can't solo everything in abyssea. Well you can solo anything with a brew, but you run out of cruor pretty fast doing that, and get no procs so it would be pretty pointless.
And, there is ton of content outside of abyssea that is not soloable either. You aren't even allowed to enter nyzul solo for example.
So your point is?
Cause my point is, XI gives me lots to do lowman and solo... things that are rewarding - unlike getting 80 of the 45,000 SP I need to level. That is not rewarding. It is ridiculous.

lol man some of you are clueless and are really speaking out of your asses on FFXI.. go back to WoW if its such a great game.. I for one LOVE the changes.. as does everyone i'm playing with atm... everyone is talking about how much fun they're having being able to group up, and get SP.. we did leve's then did a behest, then in between we did some mob grinding.. get out make friends and play.. LexLex doesn't even play the freaking game.. he just sits here bitching.
i just went from 15-21 in a single session doing what i said above.. the SP gain is just fine.
I never did a summoner burn. I stopped playing XI way back when it sucked and was grindy. I came back when they made it fun. I did clearly state above that I solo/duoed my levels, but, it is cool if you would rather just blindly attack me versus actually reading my posts.
with the way its going it won't be around by the end of this year
Campaign, Fields of Valour, and not to mention Level sync making it a joke to find others to play with.Before the level cap raise, there wasn't a whole lot that you could solo and even then, you could only do it with a select few jobs with specific gear, specific stats and specific macros. Again, FFXIV is much much much easier to level in and much faster, if you do it correctly, compared to correctly leveling in FFXI. Remember those leve exploits you mentioned about 14? All at 75 cap, and this was in 2007-2008.
Subscriptions =/= number of accounts.
I agree, 250k is well under 500k. They had 500k in 2008, 4 years after WoW came out, the most subscriptions they ever had. SE said this themselves.
And they aren't out of thin air, a quick checking of Wikipedia citations and google gives you those numbers.

lol FFXIAH only marks people as active if they have made a transaction in the past 30 days and it only records transactions if you have signed up on the site because it has to link the site information with your character information via buying a crystal from the AH server, which the site records. What does this mean? This means that it doesn't record those that are not registered with the site. Also, there is no way to view EVERY active member in the game by using FFXIAH because it will only display 100 results at a time. The only way would be to continuously click next until it wouldn't go any further...that's a lot of clicks.
