Thank you Niqote for staying cool about this.Pay to Win refers to Cash shops that provide things that will help you advance in the game such as experience potions, tickets to automatically level up or keys to chest etc.
Yoshida clearly stated our FFXIV cash shop will be Vanity only so we do not need to worry about such stupid things ^_^
All these people with their visions of Doom ... They're not forcing anyone to buy anything.
It's just esthetics :<
Pray to the Twelve that a few months down the road we won't see another post about how we misinterpreted it and how he really meant something like this when he said vanity only.....
I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous. If we remove from you every single piece of loot that is "just" vanity and tell you to buy them it wouldn't fly well with you would it? I bet your inventory is full of them and you have spent some time acquiring them. Why exactly are you people pretending Vanity is something completely worthless and not really part of the game?
Because it's the only thing they can think of to defend this.I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous. Dude, I'm not even at 50 and I'm a huge Vanity man... and I still have very little reason to care about the Cash Shop not one bit and it will stay that way since plenty of the gear in the game already has given me enough options to make the characters dress how I want them to.I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous. Mmm... its less about defending the idea and more about defending myself because I am ok with the idea ne?
Personally I am not buying anything from the cash shop because not a single one of those items appeal to me. But Why should I get in the way of others?
Maybe one day they will release an item I like and yes I will buy it. Because I will not begrudge spending money on my hobby, on something that makes me happy and thus supporting the progression of the game and the company.
Now... to be fair, if they decided to completely get rid of the Veteran reward system and replace it with a cash shop... well I would be against it completely!!!
But as it is I will not go off on a emotional rampage because of a 'What if' or a overzealous example ''If we remove from you every single piece of loot that is "just" vanity'' indeed.
I prefer to discuss the reality at hand and the fact is we now have a cash shop with a small handful of vanity items... that is all.

I think it depends on what is being put up for sale. One thing people forget permanently is that the subscription fee is LOWER than it was back when Ultima Online came out. Heck, I paid 22 Euro / 28 USD for my Meridian 59 subscription, PER MONTH, Ultima Online, back in 1997, was 15 USD per month. Adjusted for inflation that is 22 USD by 2014 standards.
So everything is getting more expensive, MMOs are not? If we'd be willing to pay 20 USD a month for the sub, this wouldn't be needed... who would subscribe for 20 USD? No one? Well, then they gotta make money in different ways...
Seriously people, start to be a bit more realistic here. If they only sell past event items or an odd mount here or there, that's fine, if it ends up like EQ2 where, without paying for cash shop items, you will look extremely boring and generic, then that's bad. Now seriously, let the cash shop come and see how bad it is before you put a burning cross in Squeenix' yard.
Well a minion is £3.50 compared to like the £10-12 Blizzard charge for theirs. I'm okay with that.
