Very conflicted about the cash shop...

So, this is about the only thing that I've heard at Fan Fest that I'm actually not liking.

I know that they said "fashion only" but I'm still not okay with that unless all of the items are also obtainable in-game without spending money.

You already get revenue from subscriptions, server transfers, fantasia, and the other merchandise you've been attaching in-game rewards like minions to.

Please handle this with careful consideration.

It's awful but as the saying goes "A fool and his money are soon parted" and you can bet there are a lot of fools. They're losing potential revenue by not doing this and that's what matters in the end.

The subscription fee doesn't automatically entitle all players to use all FFXIV-related services and features free of additional charge. If they want to add purely cosmetic extra features to the game for purchase, what's wrong with that? If you like the items in the shop, further support the game with your small purchase and enjoy your item. If you don't like them or don't want to pay for them, play as usual and ignore the shop.

I don't want this to turn into a situation where they hold back content that would actually be in the game to sell in the cash shop. We are paying monthly for content already. Everything they develop should either be included and available in the patch or part of an expansion. To start withholding content to sell on top of a subscription fee is incredibly distasteful.

Other subscription based games have vanity item cash shops so why is not okay if XIV does it? If you don't have money for it or don't like the idea, then just don't buy it

You can't seriously be defending something like this. We already pay them to support the game. We buy the game. We pay for our subscriptions. We pay for character services. We pay for expansion. That should be more than enough. They do not need to exploit us by withholding items to sell in the cash shop. It seems so disrespectful to fans who have been supporting them for so long.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, the vanity aspect is the real "winning", not the numbers on an item or how fast I level. So yes, a cosmetic cash shop is still pay to win in my opinion, because having fun is how I win, and cosmetics are fun to play with.

I'm not saying it's right, I completely agree with your viewpoint. I'm paying a subscription fee and as such, I expect to have all content available, one way or another. But many don't care about stuff like principles and are more than happy to lay down money for this. And if the demand is there, the company will obviously answer, as sickening as it is.

Because it's not okay that other subscription based games are doing it too. It isn't something that I'm exclusively disliking FFXIV for doing.
