But there already is. The i90 set is AF2, because the original sets from your job quests are AF1.

The big question raised by the new tome is whether or not they'll be changing the existing 'costs' of mythology gear, Radz-at-Han quenching oils or Thavnarian Mists... or maybe they'll be reduced to a random drop in a random dungeon alongside Coke, Potash and Animal Fats...

No, myth gear is and always will be AF+1, same stat lines increased for the item level. In the beta they were also literally named "Gallant Coronet +1", etc. They showed off AF2 concept art a while back, what was shown in the expansion trailer is DRG AF2, the gear Rowena mass produced is a cheap imitation, same as darklight.
People keep mistakenly calling it AF2 because the names are now the same as of FFXIs relic armour sets.
You're debating preference. The beta was the beta. It's not the beta anymore, and gear no longer is named ----+1 so you can't refer to it as AF+1. People in large part will choose to call it AF, AF2, AF3, and beyond. I normally refer to i90 pieces as relic but that's because everyone in my FC understands it from FFXI.No, myth gear is and always will be AF+1, same stat lines increased for the item level. Going by your own logic, you are mistakenly calling it AF+1 because the gear had a +1 during beta, which was a past event, just like FFXI and it's armor. Do you see how pointless it is to debate preference of naming something? And most people in FFXI did not refer to relic as AF2. They called it relic armor because of the lore of Dynamis...so you trying to tie AF2 here to there doesn't make sense. People learned from XIers to call it AF, and it naturally went on to AF2 and will continue beyond.
The only reason to refer to armor in XI as AF1, AF2, and AF3, is to AIMinize relic and empyrean names to numbers and still understand what they represent. i.e. same reason lol wtf lmao etc so on exists, and it wasn't even common until recent years when Empyrean armor was unleashed and people wanted to shorten it to AF3 but couldn't without shortening relic to AF2 soooooo.... The reason to do it here is because there is practically no meaningful quest and lore to name tag them. We could even call them legendary gear(LG1/2/3/etc) at this point with what little lore there is to support it. It's sad, really, what has become of this gear from it's heyday in FFXI, just so a bunch of people aren't turned away when they are faced with a semi difficult challenge of obtaining JSE. And we know it's true! Just look at the relic reborn quest line.

.
AF+ gear will always resemble the job quest gear to a degree
AF2 is coming to a future content patch... probably the expansion tbh. . .
My personal hope is that they expand Grand Company ranks and do the following as a result:
- Put the Allied Seal (i70) GC gear on the higher ranks.
- Put Darklight and Mythology gear on either the GC quartermaster or just consolidate it under Allied Seals -- and keep them out of dungeons kthx; cluttered drops are cluttered.
- Make a new vendor (in Rowena's House of Splendors?) that offers it for either gil (20k+?) or reduced Soldiery prices.
It will probably cost less soldiery as an additional nerf to previous relic phases, I doubt they will become random drops as they only serve for relics, while those other items (which are available in a reliable shop now) serve a wider purpose.
