If anything, the main "easing" I'd like to see for atma/alexandrites would be to remove the equipped weapon requirement for them to drop. Just let us unlock them, and then they drop from FATEs period so we can get exp if we like while farming them.

It's the "you get a trophy just for showing up" generation.
The relic quest as it stands is ridiculously simple and if they raise the drop rate of atma, which is basically the only road block for many, they are going to make it even easier. Starting over again will not be such an ordeal as long as atma drops get boosted. Books take a few hrs each, myth is ridiculously easy to get and they basically hand you an alex each day. So while you may not get it a week after you hit 50 its not THAT bad of an issue.
Plus it may be a whole different quest line they introduce for these weapons and heck they may have a whole new generation of weapons that we need to build from scratch too. Its the nature of an mmo.

I do not think they would scrap the concept of Relic come 3.0.. If they did that, what is the point in doing the line in the first place? Everyone might as well not bother. lol

They said in a live letter months ago that the final form of the relics would alter skill animations, so it's fairly obvious they're intended to be a vanity thing to use as glamour once you're done. On top of that the very fact they've even discussed the 'final' form means they do plan for the current relic progression to end at some point soon.
It simply would not make sense for one weapon to be upgraded endlessly throughout the entire lifespan of the game as it would discourage new players from starting since they would never be able to catch up.

I suppose. Time will tell for sure what their final decision will be as they change their minds on various things... <sigh> I would love it if we could turn it in for a great starter weapon in the expansion! They said in a live letter months ago that the final form of the relics would alter skill animations, so it's fairly obvious they're intended to be a vanity thing to use as glamour once you're done. No you have to start over it a new job, just like now if you switch jobs you have to do the stuff over again.

Idunno how they're gonna handle jobs native to Eorzea, but I've been saying for a while that jobs from different places should have different means of acquisition for their relics.
I wouldn't be surprised if the new 3.0 relics for the new classes were off the bat on par or close to on par with 2.0 final relics. Might still be difficult to get but I don't expect a huge grind.

DRK wouldn't be a tank though.

Yeah but it's a job that I didn't have on the release date, a job that I could not choose as my main at the time of the games release.
Well you can't say that for sure. Gunnner is gona be a class we don't expect.
