Only if they don't sell anything and you can't access the storage while they are in the party. Can I please let my Chocobo rest & tag in my Retainer to fight alongside me?
I think this would be incredibly awesome.
You could even go so far as allowing us to develop our bond with Retainers... give them questlines, utilize more of the personality we chose for them, even possibly implement them into the Main Scenario to a small degree (like we hire them into our personal militia).
And the companion fee should be 10 ventures / 30 minutes ^^

+1 to get more companions
Soloable/companionable dungeons would be nice, like, as we are getting hard modes on dungeons, maybe another rework of existing dungeons as a challenge where you and your companion(s) can enter
Expanding the types of companions you could get (retainers, beastmen, chocobo, minion etc) would be fun to chose wich one would be more usefull to you and your class as you progress. Rewards for leveling your companions, bardings, glamour...
Do want......
I know most people hate that we suggest ideas from FFXI but there are some stuff that can be fun to revamp, like the user created dungeons, companions etc, sure, a system like that would have to be a mayor update in the distant future, but still... would be nice.
OMG imagine if you can do dungeons with your companions. Pretty much you, your 2 retainers and your chocobo. That would be amazing.

Tanking is a job, DPSing is a science and Healing is an art.
If the Tank dies, it's the Healer's fault. If the Healer dies, it's the Tank's fault. If the DPS dies, it's their own damn fault.
Not so much on the main scenario inclusion, but turning them into actual companions a la SWTOR would be incredible.
Wish they'd make a real bonding with chocobos first, the system has imparted near zil ties- i'm a bit disappointed, but assuming we can do both then heck do both. lol
Plus if some content that requires small parties every goes dead, new players a year, two, three from now can still complete it with all their npc friends. With DF and companions content should take a very long time to die (hard to complete old content), that's great.
How soon people forget our companions from 1.0. They were taken out and I want to say there was some vague talk about them possibly returning at a later date.
if they do this, give us companion gambits like FFXII+1 to get more companions

Path Companions are neat but I just envisioned something far greater right now than even simple Retainer Companions.
Implement story characters who are intended to become part of our personal entourage akin to a traditional single-player FF.
This could be the current Scions however character death or displacement couldn't occur if they were meant to stick with us to the bitter end, so I think it'd be better if we got new NPC's to fight alongside us as Companions.
More personality & uniqueness from your basic NPC's & who actually participate in the plot to an extent.
They'd act akin to how an Optional Recruit like Vincent or Yuffie did in FF7, chiming in when brought along but not story-imperative.
Add in that guy's FFXII Gambit Suggestion & we're golden!
I love that idea, let us gambit AI controlled Companions *drool*.

To make this work with the varying different retainer personalities they would have to write unique dialog for each of those personalities, multiplied by how many times you'd like the retainer to speak up. That's adds up to a lot of work very quickly. Our playable characters don't even get that kind of attention. I would rather all that effort be spent giving our characters more dialog options in quests instead.
I'm all for retainer companions, or something along those lines, but I think including them in the main story is getting our priorities mixed up.
A true paladin... will sheathe his sword.
