With WoD in a month, what do you feel will happen in to FF14's population?

People will check out WoD for sure. I don't think it will be much of an impact for FFXIV though.

I think Final Fantasy has solid subscribers. People chose the genre, it's what keeps this game going. Now we need some good development decisions for 3.0 starting with changing the job system <--- more depth to jobs <--- more options for content <--- stop catering to the new player only and make solid content for everyone to enjoy.

I loved WoW in it's time. It really had a lot of story and lore and fun things to do and see. For nostalgia's sake, I resubbed for a month this summer but it just wasn't the same. Kind of feels hollow now and I realized it wasn't the current game I miss but it's BC-WOTKL version. Glad to see their graphics are finally getting a polish but even with an update, they don't compare to this game. People will leave when WoD drops as a lot of people love Warcraft and want to see their new stuff/stories. A good deal of people will also stay with this game as it's really a great game. We will see a population drop at least temporarily but I don't foresee either game DYING in the process. If anything the competition is good for both games as it's incentive to make both companies try harder.

2.4 will be before WoD but blizz is releasing the prepatch this week , that could hurt too , new model /talents and some dungeons (ubrs for lvl 90 and another thing that i cant remember now , a bg? )

Indeed, but he kept reiterating he feels WoW is the standard and wants to build ARR like that. That's why I said WoW still does it better since ARR is still having some issues in the 'borrowed' areas. So it's not that it's the only MMO they borrowed from, it's the fact he wasn't hiding that WoW is basically ARR's "role model." Which is why I said it'd be odd to go to play the MMO they based ARR around, dislike the more efficiently designed features, then come back and enjoy the more broken versions of the same systems.

If he kept reiterating it, show me 3 sources where it states that he wants to build ARR the same way as WoW. And please, do not post link about him taking inspiration from the game, nearly everyone takes inspiration from WoW when designing a MMO and taking inspiration from a game is not the same as building the game just like it.

This was me, too, at first. I had to think about it. "Warriors of Dynasty?" "World of Ducks?"
I did eventually realize OP was talking about Warlord of Draenor, the next WoW expansion. But the fact that he never actually bothered to spell it out, and just assumed everyone magically knew what he was talking about, seems a little pretentious.

WoW with updated its graphics which is almost comparable to FF14

Uh... the updated character models are neat, but in my opinion are still fairly dated. I don't see how it is even close to FFXIV, graphically.

Anyway, to answer your original question: I can't speak for what others will do. It's likely that some amount of people will want to try out the new WoW expansion, but I won't be one of them. I quit for good after Cataclysm. Pandas did not entice me, and neither does what they're offering now. In fact, since the game has that limited free trial (play til level 20, I think), I actually went back and played around in WoW just for old time's sake. It's actually pretty jarring, after playing more modern MMORPGs. It felt very awkward to play, and the experience quickly dissolved whatever nostalgia I had left for the game. Blizzard can apply as many facelifts they want, it doesn't change what's underneath.

From my point of view, after seeing someone repetitively act the same way over and over, I don't think it's a matter of being jaded as much as having a reputation (good or bad) following you so one can quickly expect how someone will act to be able to deal with it accordingly.

On-topic, WoD coming out will have some effect on the game population but it's not going to be substantial. 2.4 coming out soon will make sure to minimize the impact that WoD will have on the playerbase. Obviously, everything in this thread is pure conjecture as far as what will really happen and we can only rely on our past experience to make a somewhat educated guess.

Fair enough. I don't keep enough tabs on forum people for any one of them to develop a reputation in my mind. I just react to whatever anyone says at face value, regardless of what they've said in the past. Makes things simpler.

Haha, I did this too! Except for me, it was "World of Darkness" at first, and I was thinking, "Wait a minute... that's not coming out until 2.5. Why are we talking about this now?" and then I thought it was some hot new MMO on the market I'd not yet heard of.
