    Kind of like this game.

MMO "gamers" have commitment issues these days.

It will definitely affect this game's population, though.
Whether or not subscribers are lost or not is really circumstantial to say. The fact remains that with over 6 million subscribers inside of WoW, there is legitimately a larger playerbase. So it's impossible to rational what that means for ff14. One of the only ways of really seeing this is if the expansion pack and events leading up to it can significantly increase subscription numbers for square enix.

I want to play WoD but to me it just isn't worth the $50 just for an expansion, and the sub on top.
Maybe once it gets cheaper and they add the extra content patches I'll check it out.

I'm not sure what I will do if FFXIV's expansion is similarly priced.

I am actually thinking of unsubbing when Kingdom Hearts 2.5 comes out because I've noticed I don't play anything else but FFXIV when I'm subbed (still need to finish FFX-2 and LR hard mode...), but I'll be back in a month or two. It won't be permament and hardy noticeable.

    It always does.

Everytime WoW's expansion comes out, they see a significant burst in currently subscribed players: http://www.statista.com/statistics/2...rs-by-quarter/

The real question, is that will players who go to WoD return to FFXIV.

Burning Crusade & Wrath of the Lich King prooved to be prosperous for the brand. However if you look at the numbers after Cataclsym and Mist of Pandaria, there is a significant loss in player base.

As someone who played Cata and MoP, I can say from personal experience that blizzard made so many fundamental mistakes that the brand became tarnished (not to mention d3's release).

However, if this expansion prooves to be like everyone thinks it is (as good if not better than the first two expansions), except high numbers in subscribers and dwindled player bases from other mmorpgs.

    .
To my perception, you are forgetting about the player who is filling time with FFXIV. So what about the WoW player who does in fact only play WoW. However now that his character are level 90 and wearing the Raid equipment from MoP, this give him an opportunity to play another game until more serious obligations approach him again in WoW.

I didn't forget that. Like I said, many players left after Cata/MoP. A lot of which are currently FFXIV players.
If the expansion brings everything it promises, expect the players to follow.
Not to mention that by the time players have raids in full clear with the equip they need, the first major patch usually roll's around with more content.

Yes. i agree entirely. This is the most important part i believe. The fact of the matter is that WoW is now level 100. So that's a really serious product for another game to compete with. That's simply how large that game has become with a subscription like 6 million.

Answer is nothing . Why u ask ? WoW is already dead horse (Similar to FFXI) no content added will save it , nor will bring new ppl's in for long (and old also) . In other way we have update on nose (FFXIV) which will bring New shiny stuff ( COil , gear , new quests , maybe some new other stuff and grind stuff as allways ) and ALSO Old stuff that was unreachable for "casual" player is -> 2nd Coil nerf revealed + not forget Ramuh EX

I do not think it will hurt FFXIV significantly. People are quite capable of playing two mmorpgs - if their budgets allow for it and if they like FFXIV to stick with alongside WoW.

Yep. And FFXIV is seriously lacking in content = reward. Perhaps if hard dungeons they released in the next patch dropped anything viable that might be something.
Currently, content has a way of punishing (Lockouts so that you can't play with others) ect that doesn't exactly make players want to log in and keep going.
Ninja will be something to do, but even so, leveling in this game is lightning fast.
