Fenrir was only a Dark-Elemental in FFXI. He was an Earth-Elemental in FFIX and a Non-Elemental in FFVI. His role was never defined outside of FFXI, so they can make him whatever they want in this game. Alexander would be a hard sell to change up, as he's not only always been a Holy-Elemental, but he's always held a somewhat prominent role since Final Fantasy IX.

To be fair, neither has Titan nor Ifrit nor Leviathan. Carbuncle has always been a far more useful and "powerful" summon, either because of the reflect trivializing some "hard bosses" or the regen effect. It wasn't, again, until XI did certain summons actually get a "purpose" and "Power", like Garuda for example.

Garuda is the only exception to what they added. Titan/Ifrit/Shiva/Ramuh/Leviathan/Odin/Bahamut have always been iconic (exceptionally recognizable) summons through out the Final Fantasy games, hence they were given much more priority over everything else. There has never been a well defined Wind-Elemental summon, so they threw Garuda in there from FFXI and called it a day.

It was never about what summons had more or less "power", because this definition almost always changes between games (this and the fact that summons rarely got story lines & side stories outside of Bahamut and Odin). It's all about what they deemed is an "icon" to the series and IP.

I was stating that Fenrir was a Dark-Elemental in FFXI, not that he was the only Dark-Elemental. There's no well defined elemental alignment for Fenrir, so they made him Ice based in this game.

Ahh my mistake - I misread your previous comment - My bad :P

But yes Fenrir's alignment has changed between previous Final Fantasy games, it's a shame he's been demoted to a dungeon boss like most previous summons, but glad hes in the game nonetheless.

- you need to collect <element> energy from <element>crystals in order to summon <element> Primal.
- there is no in ffxiv.
=> No dark primal !

- Ifrit/Titan/Garuda 1st fights were 4man lvlcapped story fight, ultima was a dongeon boss
- we have access to harder 8man trials for them .
=> it's not because the first encounter is a 4man/dungeon boss that he won't make a come back as a stronger trail fight!

It's almost like there is a fan festival in less than 2 weeks. Could you possibly for one second consider that just maybe they are saving the big reveal for the massive in-person event? That might be expecting too much though.

uhm, that's unrealistic expectation
they already announced new coil, new class/job, new primal, new dungeons; what more would you expect?
if they haven't already announced it by now, then don't expect anything major.
i'd guess it will be some more QoL stuff, new crafting recipes, maybe higher DoH/L ilv gear. new main quest, some side quests, new pets, etc.
though, there's 2 open job-stone slots, so...maybe...THF, you can have this.

It would be amazing, if they decided to bring in Shadow from FF VI, since he was THE Ninja. Imagine how his dog would look too. Idk, I can just see that being a nice cameo. *shrugs* just me though..

It's already know the Ascians possess their hosts through the use of dark crystals. It's explicitly stated in the main story so there definitely are dark crystals in XIV.
