I was recently in the same predicament as you sort of... I made a thread about which one I should stick with when it came to my Hyur or Elezen (though I had been playing both since launch.), but the best advice I got in my thread, and certainly better advice then I could come up with was this:

All other things being equal, there's more to looks than just looks. Appearance says a lot about one's own personal character and how we choose to represent ourselves. We also feel differently about playing through different characters (I have alts of different races and genders and they're all unique experiences to play, not because the NPC's react differently to you, just something more subtle than that which is hard to explain...).

In a game like this, where physical changes are limited after the fact, you also have to be confident that this is a character that you'll be comfortable with after an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year, however long you plan to keep him around (hopefully many years, you'd be missed otherwise). It's not a light decision to make and not really a decision others can make for you...
I hope this advice can help you the same way it helped me ^.^

You'd be surprised how much just the right type of armor combination can do. I see so many people running around in flashy gear that isn't glamoured but then you've got those who glamour everything from head to toe on their character. Me for example I've glamoured nearly every piece of equipment I have in one way or another to suit my interest. You never know what piece of gear will look good with a different one either so hang onto dungeon drops, use the Try On feature often to look at certain parts, you might find one piece you really like and next thing you know you're coordinating your whole look around that piece.

That quote is full of wisdom and win. It's truly entirely up to you to decide how you prefer. For example despite wanting a Miqo'te male since 1.0's launch and rumors abound they may consider adding them in eventually I still play my female one instead. I have a Miqo'te male too, and while he feels very different from my main I always find myself going back to her because she's most familiar to me. I've tried different hair colors/styles too and none of them feel the same or I suppose you might say, "comfortable" as ones I've grown to like.

OP I'd take what the quote mentioned above into consideration because at the end of the day it comes down to what you enjoy playing and not what the general population tells you.
