Add phase is the only time the macro is important. If they can't pay attention up until then, or even after, then you aren't in a farm PT. You're in a noob one.

I would make macros just because you can. You've cleared it a bunch of times you've said, but the rest of your party members might not be as experienced as you are. Especially when I run with pugs, I do what I can to minimize mistakes that other people can make. Calling out honey, shriek, blighted from SCoB. This includes using voice, as its just too damn useful.

But the party sounded like they were jerks so you didn't miss out on much it seems.

Yeah, but like I said in my first post that makes a big assumption about the experience level of the other 7 people in your party. If they're people you know and can trust, no it isn't "needed" (even if it's still helpful). In a PUG situation, which it sounds like what the OP was in, it's a godsend to have something like VoIP or at least macros to keep things going smoothly. The guy next to you performing a crucial role might not have the fight memorized as well as you so visual and verbal reminders can easily make the difference between pass and fail.

Needed or not, there's no real reason not to use macros or VoIP (besides maybe the OP's situation where speaking can disturb others, but you can still listen and respond with macros).

In the same vein, there's no real reason TO use macros or VoIP. It's just what it is, a tool at which you can use. It's not a requirement, nor should it ever be.

Tank strat on ramuh ex is very simple, and u can see your orbs buff , DPS/healers (less because they target u) dont know how many seconds left .

Adds + rolling , and u dont even know if its tanks turn or not, a macro that takes 10s to make can save u 1h of wipes.

Not to be a dick or anything, but if it is a farm party and the reason for wiping is orbs? Sorry it is not a farm party and I would of left kudos to you for staying though. I use macros as well and I see six orbs up?
Everyone should clear the damn orbs healers, tanks and Dps alike. Only exception to this rule is the chaos baiter and if your going to overcharge,
that person isnt' required but it is still nice.

I understand VoIP, people may be shy or not know the language well but a macro? is just a freaking button you press.
There's two reasons why people don't use a macro.
    1. You're just lazy
    2. The party doesn't need it.
Op said they wiped because party didn't get orbs. So op didn't get the memo that party did need it after the first wipe and he didn't get it the second and third wipe either. Apparently he must be told what to do since he can't figure it out by himself.

If you're too uber to play with noobs that need macros just leave.

I'm not blaming you TS but you should make a macro.
Isn't that the reason the party wiped again and again? Because lack of communication?
And don't forget you're joining a Pugs not a static.
