::came to say the exact same thing::
95% of the reasons i was going is now available online. Lovely.
I hate complaining, but i'm going to.
This is way out of my comfort zone. My health is not great, i have a hard time on airplanes (and i've never flown this far before so who knows how it will go), i put off a few things i've been wanting to do, i spent money that could go to more important things, and am planning to travel somewhere i never wanted nor intended to go. I did all of this because attending an event like this that celebrates something i've loved for more than half of my life was worth some discomfort and sacrifice. Now it turns out every event will be streamed online for what i am sure is less than half of the ticket cost, not to mention being a tiny fraction of the hundreds of dollars i am spending on a plane ticket and hotel. I'm risking health and safety just to attend this. TBC
CONT'D
Yes, it is my own decision and ressponsibiliy to weigh the pros and cons, but we were not informed of the alternatives before the tickets went on sale. I would have chosen to stay at home, and view the event in comfort, and not have to spend a lot of money and try to sort out all the logistics if i had known. And i'm not even getting an exclusive in game item out of it.
The one thing i have now is being able to POSSIBLY take pictures of cosplayers in person, assuming they let us take cameras in, and nothing happens to the camera on the way there. Oh, and a t-shirt. Also there is the possibility that rooms will not be large enough to hold all attendees, so i will have to arrive at every event early and hope i get in, while people at home just get to sit in front of their computers to see it all.
I think i may cancel the entire trip and just stream it. Sure, the ticket money is non refundable, but the rest of the cost is, and i won't have the hassle of it all.
If you're a ticket holder for the other fan fests (EU or Tokyo) will you get access to the HD stream of the Vegas fanfest? Or will you have to pay for that as well?
"Physical prizes and gifts are great, but one of the biggest giveaways for attendees is the Fan Festival 2014 in-game item! Each attendee will come away with a special in-game item designed for the hardcore collector. However, players who purchase tickets but don’t attend the event are ineligible to receive this special gift, so be sure to join the festivities and collect your prize!"
Unless you get a premium stream ticket. :\
So fuzzy on all of this. To be clear: There are NO truly exclusive items for actually attending other than a shirt and a bag, unless maybe you win a contest? The Moogle Attire is no different for the stream people that the attendees? Do we get a premium streaming ticket if we bought a real ticket? Will there be a limited number of streaming tickets?
"For the price of admission, attendees will be the recipients of giveaways including a variety of items, event information, and other goodies. Fan Festival 2014 is designed with fans in mind, and we’ve got just the sort of prizes any adventurer would love. "
This is now probably the "swing vote" for me. I have to wonder what's in the bag, and if it's worth the trip.

If its like FFXI Fest they did random raffles as well. They also had group quests and I bet there will be rewards with the mentioned FATES they got planned.

This is too funny, all this seems to be is a marketing ploy to get players to purchase the ticket for fan fest."Physical prizes and gifts are great, but one of the biggest giveaways for attendees is the Fan Festival 2014 in-game item! Each attendee will come away with a special in-game item designed for the hardcore collector. However, players who purchase tickets but don’t attend the event are ineligible to receive this special gift, so be sure to join the festivities and collect your prize!"

Afterwords everything is set in stone as far as Plane tickets, Fan Fest ticket/vip ticket sales, and even people who did Retainer service, they THEN announce this stream service.
I am not too mad ONLY because I will be in Vegas and I can have plenty of fun, but definitely have learned lesson for future as far as FFXIV Fan Fest plays tricks with their words.

I don't regret buying my ticket but I'm staying home next year.
