No I am not but it doesn't take a genius to understand that ISP issues, issues with the Nodes, routing issues are network related. Especially if you're a programmer like you said, that difference should be glaringly obvious which makes think you really aren't one. If you are though, I wouldn't want to be the guy that has to fix your code.

Sure, Square-Enix has no power over what the ISPs do...but that doesn't explain why they based all of their NA/EU servers in goddamn Montreal, Canada.

Was it so hard to put the servers in a location near the people who actually play the game?

I live 1 hour away from Montreal. The province of Quebec is the second largest province in Canada and it actually as a huge playerbase in regards to MMO . The servers being in Montreal is actually a wise decision (until they decide to implement one over there which would be even better) considering the datacenter for Europe is located there as well. Don't talk about thing you don't know about.

So today I did Ramuh EX for a while with no lag. I go into Titan EX and it's a lagfest. At least 5 of us were getting weight of the land and landslide bursts (not sure about the pick-up people). It was completely unplayable and we had to quit. We are from all over the US.

I don't know what's causing this. All I know is, FFXIV was lagfree for the first 4-5 months and now it's partially broken.

I was using WTFast way back. And noticed the location in it changed to Japan sometimes when I joined instances. Was a during the Titan HM days, so probably changed now.

Is that still happening?

I had tons of lag issues in the past, but after TimeWarner recently upped their regular internet package to 50 Mbps I haven't had any issues, save for the very very rare hiccup.

You actually may have some wonkiness wanting to creep in from the Netherlands. Hard to say without more samples... but it might be something to watch for if things suddenly go south for you. In just 10 pings, I got one timeout.

I did a look up, it's one of my ISP's nodes. The Netherlands is my country. I guess it's the last gateway in their network before reaching the actual net. I think gtt is the one managing the international connection. Not sure what other wonkiness you might be refering to though, but thanks for the heads up none the less. ^^

Percentage-wise, there is too much spread between the response times (6 to 47 with an average of 12... should be a much tighter min/max, and I lost 1 ping in 10). Usually signs that something is coming under heavier loads and trying to compensate. It's still within manageable limits... for now.

I ran into a similar thing back at the start of the year, but closer to home. During peak traffic times... the max times were breaking 2 full seconds and started timing out. When this happened, their were all kinds of problems in just about anything we did online, and not just XIV because it was one of the key residential gateways for our area. TWC eventually split a bunch of us off to a different gateway designated for another city and things stabilized again for that portion of the route.

This was about the time frame we got the ball rolling on the Level3/TATA/Cogent problems as well--was a lot easier to get them moving once we got them working on the local gateway issues and they became more aware of the situation in general. Ever since then, they've been quite responsive when I send them updates about issues. Usually no more than a 3 business day turnaround (still sucks when it happens Friday or Saturday because of that delay though). It wasn't exactly easy getting them to that point...there were a lot of us spamming them with emails and forum posts (and some heated twitter posts), but it has finally paid off. Just have to be persistent I guess.
