I personally wouldn't want the gun class to be a healer. Either straight range or range/melee hybrid.
Yeah I'm with you.. I really hope the gun job is a DPS. Gun classes have always been cool to me, but healing really isn't my deal.
As for why they're adding Ninja first; its probably because its more anticipated or wanted by the majority of the community. Ninjas and Rogues and stuff tend to be extremely popular. Its also a staple FF job.

I suspect once Ninja comes out even less people will be playing Frontline, nobody likes a class that can turn invisible and gank you while you can do nothing about it. I personally hate stealth classes in every single MMO.While I am okay either Ninja or Musketeer, I doubt what is the point with stealth class in this game ?
Because every dungeon has one pattern, each mobs stay exactly where it is every time.
Avoid boss mechanic ?, questionable because stealth from DoL has yet avoid AoE.
Frontline ?, only reason to stealth but how may ppl playing Frontline ?
Stealth classes are the only thing to keep you on your edge of your seat.
It's been said NIN is a scout class, not a stunlock class. I'm sure u won't see that particular iteration of a 'scout' type class in this game
I don't always pug, but when i do, it's with Pretty Ugly Guys
Well as long as they don't have a annoying backstab assassin type ability that does insane dmg which plagues most MMO's I'll be okay with it.
We have yet another hint that the so-called gunner class, or Musketeer, may not be a pure gunner. Most recently revealed screens showcase yet another boss wielding both a sword and gun, much like the first Pharos Sirius boss.
We know that the musketeer is not what we're expecting it to be. And we know that its not part of the expansion line up of classes based on quotes from the producer.
I suspect, then, that the musketeer may end up being the first hybrid class that could fulfill any roll. Though I suspect it may be limited to damage and healing roles (off-healer). The possibility that the musketeer ends up being a melee class (or a ranged class with melee abilities) is an interesting style that hasn't really be done before in FF14. And the style could lead to allowing it to perform a hybrid role than simply being strictly gun-oriented. I also suspect that the gunner class may actually be a Disciple of Magic, rather than a Disciple of War, though I don't have the fondest like of that suspicion.
