I quit FFXI right before XIV alpha started. After playing XIV for a few months and realizing it was not fun, I am now back on FFXI.

I quit XI after I found out there's no such thing as reasonable endgame players, and it was nice to play something else that actually felt like fun instead of a full time job.

Ironic in the sense that tons of other people think playing XIV is a job. O_o

Depends. The grind is a bit of an annoyance but doesn't bother me much, but beats doing the same tiring event 1-2 times every week due to crap drop rates.

A job I still had back last summer was giving me very random hours week after week, so I couldn't keep with a consistent schedule for anything in FFXI. Also all I ever did was farm and level my crafts, I was always in fear of running out of gil with the way prices on everything were (ninja tools, magic scrolls for classes, non rare/ex gear that you needed). I never got into endgame so my gear was lacking for exp/merit parties and eventually I got to a point where I didn't want to waste my free time trying to get into a party or exping. Lots of things, I just got fed up with the whole system.

About the same time, I got into the FFXIV testing. So I decided to spend my free time on there.

I was banned from XI for duplicating salvage drops with the rest of end game Valefor in 2009.

I just got really bored of FFXI after putting so many years into it, roughly 5 years. I have been following FFXIV (Originally Codename: Rapture for quite some time). When it came out finally I decided this is going to be my game and there for awhile I questioned if the game is going to survive and then Yoshi-P got made the new director and started making posts and Polls asking what players like and would like to be added and now I have faith in the game.

FFXIV had a rocky start they rushed the title out too early and even though Tanaka is an amazing guy he messed it up from the start. Atleast Yoshi-P is taking all the right steps to correct the problems and add new expected out of the box features (some may call this streamline but I don't really agree with that). People judged FFXIV way too harshly imo, almost all MMOs have big struggles within the first 6 months and then usually either succeed or die within the first year. They make the cut or they don't.

In the end I know FFXIV is going to be better than FFXI. When? Give the game some time it is fighting against its predecessor, within 6 months time the game will have flourished and tons of a people will be playing it and there will be enough content to make us happy. May take a few years to topple its big brother but it will without any doubt in my mind.

Also FFXI is a dying MMO at this point in time. It loses players on a daily basis and the new content is kind of a jock, it only keeps the hardcore FFXI lovers at bay and even some of them are slipping to newer more promising games. I know some of you probably won't like what I said about FFXI but it is a fact no matter how you look at it. Atleast SE will always support FFXI as long as it keeps money in their pockets until the day comes where the money just isn't enough. By then Lil bro FFXIV will be prospering and reaping the benefits because then it will be a really solid game and the old school FFXI players will most likely move to it unless some other game comes a long and takes FFXI's place other than FFXIV.

Not yet Skyrant, it is currently planned in the next major version update (see http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...ynamis-Reborn!).

I got tired of only a very select few people getting the stuff in our shell. This game is new and is going to get a lot of content added to it, where ffxi has basically max'd out its memory now and can't grow much more (dying game). A lot of the things were fixed between the time i first tried this game and when I decided to Actually start playing it.

I LOVE the fact that I can just log in, and go solo some stuff without any prep work, massive gear swap, since nearly all my gear in ffxi was class specific I had ...~300 inventory devoted to gear for different jobs. And since there is no end-game content at the moment, I can just treat this game like a single player RPG that is in its beta.

I quit FFXI simply because I didn't have the time to play it. Waiting for parties was one of the biggest time sinks the game had, but I still love FFXI to death.

If I had the time to play it, I would in a heart-beat. No questions about it. But when FFXIV was first advertised, it was shown as being all the good things about FFXI, but faster. It was supposed to be FFXI for players who can only play an hour or two at night. And that's exactly what I wanted. I miss almost everything about FFXI, because it was just too good. The only problem I had with it, was how long it took to get a group of people together to go do something. So having an FFMMORPG where classes can solo? Awesome!

I know there is a lot of controversy over FFXIV becoming a sequel to FFXI. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I wish it were like that. The main-job / sub-job system was both fair and engaging. Players had to make a choice about the style their character would have, rather than just grouping up all of the best abilities from each class. It's like if a Samurai decided to be /warrior AND /thief AND /ninja AND /ranger all at the same time. It's just not fun, because we don't have to choose anything. Why would we pick and choose if we can just have everything we want?

So I am also baffled why SE can't look at their past successes and learn from them. It seems so ridiculous that they can have a game that is so old, but still is better in almost every way to their new one.
