Because the games fall into two completely different genres. MMORPGs aren't about getting married and buying a house. They're about taking on challenges, forging friendships, and bettering your character.
those are not unrelated. forging friendships and in-game marriage is linked. taking on challenges and bettering your character are both linked to housing as rewards for certain challenges are directly linked to housing and housing allows for chocobo raising and gardening which tangentially improves your character.
Some MMOs do both. Mabinogi (my only MMO before XIV) used to have all of these things very well (okay, admittedly buying a house was -crazy- difficult and you got it for a month but -still-) before it caught a fatal case of the Nexon.
