There are classes in WoW and other MMOs that you don't have access to until you reach a certain part in the story. It's highly plausible SE will take the same route (being able to play ROG/NIN before the events of 2.2 would utterly destroy the lore of the game anyway).

Those, to my knowledge, involved you playing through to a certain point, unlocking that class, and then starting that class at a level that is very close to where you left off with the other class. This is not equivalent. Here you're starting back at level 1. This seems a better fit for unlocking a possible 2nd job for existing classes, or some kind of weird advanced class/job that starts at a higher level.

Given how accessible this game is, I have a hard time seeing them adding a new class that starts at level 1 that you have to unlock. It would be very contrary to ... basically the rest of the game.

Another class/job will be well over 50 and way past the 2.0 story, but with this game's free access to any class/job on a single character, it's not as far-fetched as you think to unlock a job at a certain point in the story. And it's hard to say it's contrary to the rest of the game when the game itself only just celebrated its 1-year anniversary rebirth and we haven't had a new class/job added since 2.0 launched. If anything, ROG/NIN will set a precedent for future classes and jobs.

A game that heavily nerfs content that's not that old with "the echo", that grants same ilvl gear as raid gear to "filthy casuals", and hands out last tier's raid level gear like candy is going to force you to level up to 50 with one class, complete a decent number of quests only to unlock the class you really want to play that you now start at level 1 and have to level up again just to get to the point where you have to start gearing it?

Think what you want, but I'd call that a pretty big disconnect.
