As you've already explained, it's easier to make $40 than it is to make 4 million gil. It completely throws the game's economy out of balance. It makes gil near worthless. Housing is one of the only uses for gil.

I'll throw my support behind it. I would much rather just buy a large plot with money rather than try to farm up the ridiculous amounts of gil necessary for it. Is it ideal? No, I'd much rather they lower the price. I also wish they would add more plots. Do I think either's happening? Nope. But I do support the option to buy with real money.
I very much doubt this would have a significant impact because RMTers get their gil from a variety of ways. All this is because of "RMT" according to some
But the truth is, Squenix does not mind the RMT unless they are reported/found out or go in excess (with very large amounts in one go).
The solutions to stop RMT are simple but they do not care enough to put those easy stops in.
Easiest way to cripple the RMT?
No more gil drop, at all, from monsters.
Only from quests, challenge log, and whatever else.
Takes far more time for a bot to go through main story than to spam Wanderer's Palace 24/7
Some is from stolen / hacked accounts
Some they buy from rich end game people who quit and sell their account for a few $
Some run a bot from just creates a character, does a start quest, delete, repeat
And on and on
Dont mean to be rude, but i believe my suggestion falls under an alternative.
f you really really want an affordable personal house then will you consider moving to another server? ie Jenova. The cost is abt 1mil for a cottage and there are plentiful of them.
Yes leave your friends behind, your linkshells behind, your guild behind, all your gil except 2mil. Just to buy a house which will then cost half your money. BEST IDEA EVER.

I support this idea. It actually helps prevent RMT which officially seems to drive every decision Yoshi makes. I have not been able to save much money in ARR but I brought about 25 million with me from 1.23 (in the form of cracked materia) and I have been setting this aside to buy a mansion which I was sure would be easily manageable. Now on the new wards it is 70 million with the lowest possible amount being 35 million! If I was a million short I might just go ahead and save that money but being 43 million short, I don't see another realistic option to buying from gil seller. Now I won't purely out of principle but I bet some other people will and SE has now vastly increased the gil sellers demand just because of their pathetic server implementation but used RMT as an excuse...

No thank you.
This is a terrible idea.
RMT is a slippery slope. As you have pointed out, they already do it with retainers. Now people like you are using that as a reason to extend the concept to things like housing. It needs to stop here.
Paying rl money for extra retainers is bad enough, it doesnt need to slide any further down that road.
Its a game. You pay the entry fee, for access (aka subscription). After that everyone is/should be on the same level playing field. RL money should mean absolutely nothing beyond admission to the game.
The day this game adds a cash shop is the day i quit, and I wont be the only one.
