Having read the translation of Yoshida-san's post thanks to a pair of most excellent forumers, I can say I understand the -why- of this. I'm a little disappointed because it seems like under the current system, it's near-impossible for most players to -have- a personal house, but hopefully the infrastructure upgrades and ward doubling in 2.4 will help fix this.

My only real problem with this is how little was communicated to us, the players. I understand there are major differences in culture between us over here in the East and Yoshida-san's native Japan, I have been told by someone who actually works in this part of the field how and why it could have ended up... I just wish there had been more communication, more dialogue, with the players. What was said in the most recent Live Letter made us all think that everything was going ahead just fine; to have this dumped on us is jarring to say the least.

That said, Yoshida-san has taken a failing, crumbling game and breathed new life and energy into it. There's been hiccups along the way, of course, a moment or three that make you want to just clench your fists and scream to the heavens YOSHIDAAAAA!!!, but in the end no matter how much people whine and kvetch, Team Yoshida have taken ARR and made a vibrant, beautiful world out of it, with something to experience for players on all ends of the spectrum. And it is a truly -gorgeous- world. Last week I bumped into a fairly low-level player who'd just gotten her Cascadier vouchers. Seeing as her best class wasn't even level 25 yet, she thought she'd tag a high-level player for escort, and that's just what I did for her. And after that, I offered to show her around a little more... so to Coerthas we went, my absolute favorite zone in the game. It was (obviously) a little rough going, but we made our way through to Dragonhead (always good to tag aetherytes!) and then, before we had to split up and get back to other things, I brought her down along to Behemoth's Dominion. And about a minute after we arrived, the snowstorms in the area cleared up and the northern mountains of Coerthas spread out before us.

... That's the sort of game that they've made. And I'm more than thankful for it even if my wallet ends up $13 lighter every month.

Not sure how White Knight can be taken as a compliment. "I like being called irrational fan boy" (definition of white knight, would be like being proud to be called a troll lol).

SE definitely goofed up on their information and expectations they provided (and never altered till moment of), but the thing I find really sad about the patch is that there probably would have been a much milder response if they had just delayed housing again - I mean otherwise the patch is balancing, bug fixes, few new quests, relic, loads of QoL changes, extra little fun things, and some changes to certain areas - which could help hype 2.4.

I don't think the Yoshida should resign comments I've seen on the Japanese side, or some of the wild posts on the EN side are really needed but they definitely should have a meeting on what -they- did wrong and how not to do it again (most of it coming from /knowing/ their players expectations and then managing those expectations).

Good post...and I had to look it up on "Urban Dictionary" and well that is how I took it as a compliment. If you still don't understand...

Oh ho ho.. Urban Dictionary, that site is a lot of fun lol. And I would give you that, English like all languages is not really fixed. Definition number 5 fits what people call white knight on the forums most often, someone who will defend SE (or other organization) even if they set fire to an orphanage, no sense is involved with a white knight only the holy light of their provider.. :P

The first definition on that site is the knight in shining armor classic, and I can see that indeed being a compliment - I would like my wife to use number 1 definition but not number 5... (I understand why you said it now ). Got to love the mobility of languages XD

I wasn't aware that "drinking the kool-aid" had been redefined to refer to seeing and acknowledging the good in something despite the problems we have with it.

When you make software for your clients, do you hide information about features until production release?

    Actually, yes.

We also promise things, and then back them out completely because of bugs that arise, that were not seen until implementation. And we normally don't tell them until the day before, or in most cases the day of (Because we are trying to resolve it, and when you fix one thing, sometimes something else rears its ugly arse head).

Now Yhippa I know this may sound shady but this is the business world, and I work in real life stuff that affects potentially millions of people.

Guess what I feel like pooh, after we promise something and then don't deliver. But in the end, we do deliver, and we improve, refine and re-define the our process in some extremes in order to not repeat the same mistake.

I'm glad I do work in a place that is as forgiving as SOME fellow gamer's. Since they stay with us and actually praise us when we do things correctly, not only shine the spotlight with the power of a thousand suns, when we do something wrong.

    -Tari

p.s. Also the reason I wrote the OP in the first place...and well I can relate.

The pricing was quite high on the start I think. But where I differ from the current cry babies is that I understand plot prices will drop a couple time a day til it's bought. But much like hunts the patience is low and kids want it right away. Could the prices been lower? Yes but at the same time people could wait. Still pretty shit FC and personal share same wards.
