I was just reading through the prices for the private housing floors and to be honest I will admit I was kind of floored by the figures listed for plots of land (70 million for a large "1st class plot" on medium servers)

That being said, rather than looking at it negatively, I'm preferring to think of it as an eventual goal. I recently started playing again after an extended absence, I didn't really expect them to be overly cheap since there would not be anywhere near enough space without housing being instanced, seeing the listed figures caught me off-guard, but I know that they must be within the realms of possibility for one to be able to do within a moderately respectable time frame.

Well if you were on a leave of absence the problem isn't directly the price it is this:

combined with the fact that personal housing is being thrown together with the scarcity issues that are already plaguing FC's trying to get plots of land for Housing.

And the prices aren't technically very feasible they are just the exact same as the FC Housing prices after they had to drop those severely because of heavy disapproval by the community. Just like when FC housing 1st came out, noone in their right mind would dump that kind of gil on housing if they truly earned that much gil they wouldnt just throw that much away on a house. Small houses sure but even the small house price is in violation of what Yoshi-P told the community would happen, and there are dozens of FCs that are desperately desiring those Small Plots on alot of servers today but there aren't enough available.

Just the same as how when FC housing first came out Small Houses were insane for small FCs but not large FCs... The Devs are foolishly repeating their mistakes... It's pretty simple if you ALREADY KNOW your customers are NOT going to be pleased in comparison to the promises you have given them, INSTEAD of sealing the information until the last second; just realize it is a BAD idea and ABORT the process.

I'm still decidedly meh, I only have 170,000 gil to my name at the moment, even if the listed prices were 10% of what they are, it would still be beyond my finances. Rather than get bent out of shape over it, I'm simply going to work on building up funds so that when more wards are added in 2.4 I will hopefully be ready to actually purchase one.

You do realize that the current number of wards don't even cover the demand for FC's. Even if they had only added FCs to the 2 new wards coming out this patch there would be some large openings but about it on some servers. Main variance being that if those wards would of continued to remain FC only instead of mixed with personal housing the FCs would of waited for the prices to lower before purchase, but now it'll just be a foolish landgrab between elitely wealthy players and desperate FCs every time they under-expand the wards. Considering there are 100s of FCs but yet 1000s of characters, doubling the wards will come NO WHERE NEAR the demand for personal housing.

When they first released FC Housing it created a buying freeze on the servers, with the overly exaggerated personal housing prices compared to Yoshi's lie about the prices it only messes the economies back up again into a freeze.

And get ready for Mercs to spam your /sh & /yell channels again and litter the party finder because most people who have excessive gil get it by predatory means against other players on their server.

And for those people who keep knocking on 1.0 like it was the plague, by the time it shutdown it wasn't that bad and at least back then Yoshi-P lived up to his promises. Some people thought live events were lame but at least they were exactly what he said they were.
