Yup, and with how long it took for FC's to buy out the houses, I'm expecting about the same with the personal housing. Even so, if they all vanish in a heartbeat, instead of adding two more next patch, you could expect double or triple that number.

I highly doubt this. Hold on to money, be thrifty, then log in and buy a plot. It's fairly simple...

It's not even about money or being thrifty. That's the easy part. Players only have to be Second Lieutenant in their Grand Company in order to purchase land, and I did that in a day by doing my hunting log, a few FATEs for extra seals, and then a quick run of DD then AV. It took my Free Company five months to rise to Rank 6 in order to be able to purchase land.

And there are far fewer Free Companies competing against each other-- which is already a huge land race-- than there are individual players vying for their own personal plot of land. So now it's everyone. Everyone is competing for these few spots, and there are a lot more players competing now than Free Companies.

It just feels like it should be put into separate wards or separate areas.

Land race and wounded expectations aside, the fact of the matter is this whole issue could have been solved if someone had just stood up and said ‘Personal housing is just FC housing. It’s not cheaper, it’s not new, it’s not anything'.

The fact of the matter is they couldn't reveal this info early or FC's would buy up all remaining plots to sell on the black market once this went live. Some servers were already full, sure; but on my server there were plenty of open plots lying around and super cheap at this point. This design also allows for all wards to fill on my server, which I fully appreciate. In time, everyone will have what they want and for now a goal to shoot for.

While I do understand not wanting to give away info in order to avoid what you are talking about, they should have said nothing then. Not hinted, not agreed, not made it seem like what it was not. They should have said nothing. Also, as an FC that has been trying to get a house on a legacy server since it dropped, I doubt I am alone in saying, my patience is gone. We have the gil. Logically we should be able to buy a house. Only we can't and chocobo dying, etc only adds more content with each patch the FC and myself can't access.

I can't agree with the OP more. This entire situation is a complete brain-dead move on the part of SE. Who seriously thought that this would be okay? Who truly felt that cramming the personal housing into the same instances as FC housing would work? Not to mention that they cost the same damn price!!

SE, you have been intentionally dishonest with us! We have been asking for months about details on personal housing, and you have either refused to give us information, or you have given us false information.

I didn't have a great deal of interest in private housing but I have to say that it did seem very heavily implied that it would be its own animal and at much lower cost. I certainly never imagined it would be an uninspired and flavourless rehash of the wards we already live in... I found this announcement to be rather upsetting on account of poor and lazy implementation.

Double or triple that number means it will only take 15 minutes for players to buy them all up instead of 5 on larger servers. They'd need to add 100x more wards if they wanted any hope of using this system for player housing. You don't understand the issue at all.
