Can you help me out with a weird audio glitch?

First I am not sure what could even be causing this, and so I dont know how I could even fix it.

But a little while back I decided to record a part of the game (because I thought it was cool), and that went all fine and dandy, until I watched the video back.

In the video there was a lot of voice acting and characters talking, but while I was actually playing there was none of this.

And because I didn't know there was voice acting the entire video was full of characters saying half of a sentence then being cut off because I had clicked to read more (not knowing they were talking).

Can anyone think of any reasonable reason for this to have happened?
And can anyone think of a way I can fix it?

Not only am I unable to properly record anything for fear of this happening, but I also feel like I am missing out on a part of the story, and it makes me wonder, how many other voice acting parts are there that I have missed?

Certain parts of the main story, are indeed, voiced. Typically you'll be able to rewatch all those parts in the inn.

I understand that part, I just don't understand why I don't hear it while I am playing.
Running to the inn each and every time someone talks to me in the game simply to check if there was voice acting would be stupid.

Also it means I cant record anything because of what I have already explained.

If it's recording it, it's playing it is the thing.

I would take a look at your audio settings. You may have a slider set to low or even zero.

But then how would that explain it recording one thing but not playing back another?

I could hear all of the ambient and "action" sounds, just not the voices.

I hope I am missing something really simple with this.

Do you actually have the sound on normally?

It's known that the game will not switch output devices live, so if you don't usually hear anything at all, it could be that it's sending all the sound to a sound card you don't actually use. (Typically, if you have an onboard sound card and also use an hdmi monitor, unplugging the headset will not allow sound to go through the monitor until a client reboot: Silence for you, but recording software would pick it up). It will usually use the "active" device at launch, but you could have something set up weird.

If you have some sound effects you normally hear, then I just don't know.

But as for the voice acting, it's not terribly good and very threadbare, you're missing little.

You should check how are your sound settings, since the video you recorded had voices it means the voices were active when you played.
I had an issue like that with another game long ago, I couldn't hear some of the sounds played by the game. The issue was coming from the game set to 5.1 sound but my computer had only stereo speakers, so some sounds were going to channels without output. I guess your issue is similar, your recording software likely took the original (5.1 or whatever) sounds and made them stereo, so you can hear them in the recording.

Thanks guys, I will look into these things, and its not so much that I super miss the voice acting (though I do quite enjoy it actually), its more that my job is making videos, and I cant make anything with XIV without being SUPER careful because I am afraid I might skip/talk over someone else's voice.
