You'd have a point, if the mail box was the only example of this design philosophy. The game is littered with it at every turn; you only need to look at the Elite gear from Hunts for proof. Pure vanity gear costs upwards of 600 Seals, i90 costs upwards of 20.Your logic is heavily flawed here... Are you really saying that ~400 soldiery and 500-750 Allied Seals are easier to get than a mailbox, which you can buy from a crafter pretty cheaply? Also, in theory, your FC has more than just you in it. Split the cost of a mailbox (which is what, 100k?) between 10 people, and suddenly it's extremely cheap.

Right. Uhh, I think I missed something here. Why is that bad exactly? That's how it should be, imo. Stuff that relates directly to progress in the game (ie: i90 equips) should be relatively easy to obtain so your progress isn't artificially gated behind features you may not be able to partake in. That's why all of the story primal fights are so much easier than the extreme primal fights. That's why the endgame story dungeons are the easiest level 50 content by far, instead of being as hard as Coil. Stuff that affects ability to get through the game (story quests, myth gear, story primals)? Relatively easy. Stuff to look unique (mounts, vanity) or have special convenience or minor benefit features (choco stables, mailboxes, chocotreats)? Relatively hard.
The alternative, of course, is to make vanity items easy to get, and progress through the game hard to do. So, the Castrum/Praetorium would be as hard as second Coil, the story primals would be the Extreme versions, and Myth gear would take 1,000 Allied seals each. But, any crafter can make Spring Dresses and swimsuits with just cotton cloth at level 1, and houses (which cost 1gil) came with all furnishings unlocked for free. Is that the kind of game you're looking for? Because that's not this game...

Because that is clearly the alternative I'd rather see.The alternative, of course, is to make vanity items easy to get, and progress through the game hard to do. Christ, I'm really done with the overblown hyperbole and strawman arguments people here love to make. Anyone dare suggest the game is somehow flawed and you decide that they're asking for housing to cost 1 gil, or something equally ridiculous. Utterly pathetic.
Back on topic, this;
Is exactly what they should do.

They inserted Summoning bells in there, and that too you can make your own.
So yeah, I would vouch for having a Delivery Mog in the center of each hometowns.
Thank you.
How about a wandering Moogle like Nonoroon the Qiqirn, except that instead of randomly walking around, it floats between each house along the paths (and the letter icon on the map updates accordingly) like a real mailma-er-moogle? I think it would be cute and a nice way to live up the housing wards a little bit.
That's a cool idea too.
On a somewhat related note, it would be nice if the zones respective Grand Company had a presence in the zones; Hunt Board and Allied Seals NPC, Company Seals NPC and a NPC to turn in Supply/Provisioning Missions would be nice. People would probably complain that they're Maelstrom and their House is in Lavender Beds, though. I always see people in the Grand Company HQs, would be nice to move them to Housing Wards to make the zones feel more alive. Oh, and a Weather NPC.
