The way the Duty Finder is set up encourages people to be absolutely horrible to one another, as you can be reasonably assured that you will never see that person again or feel any consequence from offending them. Duty Finder is the youtube comments of pick up groups. The community is pretty terrible.

The community is why I had originally quit, but it seems to have gotten a little better. Granted the hunts did nothing to that benefit but you can't win them all.

I'll probably take another break soon, just to wait out the expansion.

    Alright, starting from the top.

Combat- oversimplified and lacks depth there are no crowd control abilities, not a lot of support abilities and no skill chains.

Zodiac Weapons- takes to long for the casual player to get for very little gain. At ilvl 110 it should take a max of 3 weeks for a player to get if they play 2 hrs a day since new Raids and gear come out every 6 mos.

Raiding- has a lot of one shot mechanic and is unforgiving because if one player screws up he or she can wipe the entire party

Weekly Lockout- Players can down T6-T9 on a weekly basis and not get a single loot drop for their class. Players wouldn't mind a weekly lockout if one piece of loot dropped for all classes

In general anything worth getting in this game is a long boring grind for very little reward if something is going to be a long grind it will have to be the best item in the game until the next expansion.
On combat: Originally I thought the same thing, but now I think it might just be they really didn't have enough time to make anything more complex out of it due to only having two years until release. Major changes to systems that require careful balancing rarely come out piecemeal, so I'm going to reserve my judgement until the expansion. After that, if it is still in the same state, I'll switch back on my stance.

Zodiac Weapons: We're in pretty much universal agreement on these boards that the zodiac stuff takes too long.

Raiding: Coil is good for its own particular niche. Small team content has its place, but it's difficult to call these "raids" given their small scale. Raids used to be events sometimes having over a hundred people working on them at once with a leader providing base-line coordination to keep things from falling apart. The best raids were found to be a more humble twenty-five to forty people, and are somewhere between the zergs and highly coordinated small teams of today. I'd like to see the developers try their hands at designing something like that if for no other reason than challenging content for large teams is missing from the game. Plenty of emphasis on "multiplayer," but not quite enough on the "massively" part yet.

Lockouts: Lockouts are a hot button topic due to different philosophies on the matter. In an ideal world, they would not exist. I also agree that lockouts are a last ditch effort to keep people playing, and they only give mixed results on that front. I think it also comes down to what is being locked down. In this case, its the raids, which aren't necessarily the best fit for re-playability to begin with. I have no clue what would work better in their stead or what the design team could put in their place. The combat system can pull off semi-decent PvP, but there are a lot of games that can out-do FFXIV in a heartbeat on that front. Sandbox elements are wonderful additions to any MMORPG, but take a ton of time and effort to create. Otherwise, pretty much a repeat of the raiding stuff I posted up above.

Only things wrong with FFXIV is (IMO) the slow paced over-simplistic and repetitive combat, and lack of customization for pretty much everything.

... and Squares idiotic habit of overcomplicating everything they add to the game. "Oh you want to color your Chocobo red? Well here is a combination of different items you can feed him to progressively change their color value. Youll need to study up on computer RGB values and hope the RNG gods smile upon you. Have fun!"

Even so, its obviously not enough to make me quit. The game has many redeeming features. Those are just the more frustrating and least user friendly parts of the game. Again, IMO.

Everyone has there own reason and I would say normally it's not just one thing.

Also RL issue and lack of time would be high up the list for myself.

I currently am able to play for 6-8 weeks 2 hours on weekdays and 5+ on weekends. But then RL happens and I need to leave for 1-2 months well I get things under control. Then I come back.
All I look for in a MMO is something the takes up 10-20 hours of my live per months. And has challenges but ones I can overcome.

Being progression walled because you don't have a static and duty finder for anything harder than hard mode is like grinding atma, the odds of winning are around 1%

You should see what SE did for a batman figurine. It looks awesome, but at the same time it's such an overcomplicated armor design it's barely recognizable as batman. I think some people would argue against it being recognizable at all. Still cool to look at though.

Here's why I quit: all I ever wanted to do was Coil, NOTHING else interested me. Been stuck on the first Golem phase of T9 for months and I decided enough was enough. So one night I just log out and haven't logged back in since

I wanted to do Savage coil so badly, but oh well

See you guys in 2.45! I'll be having fun in WoW in the mean time :]

    An end to FFXIV

My reasons for quitting the game are simple:
    1. Spammers have dropped in key activation points posted throughout the game that send friend requests to entice you to accept then spam your game mailbox with spam offering gil for sale.
    2. Dungeons take forever to get into the posted average wait time usually turns out to 3-4 times longer than stated.
    3. And the big one not enough players to balance the game anymore.
