Have you ever talked to a person with no gaming experience about FFXIV?

I keep having to remind my family that I CANNOT PAUSE AN MMO WHILE I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A BOSS FIGHT. There is no pause button. Things will attack me if I'm not in a safe spot while afk. And they never seem to get that.

I drilled it into my family from an early age! One does not simply turn off a game! Situation must be accessed! Is the game saved????(k that bit's a bit old now I guess..)

...oh dear, one time a party was about to kick off literally in front of me ( crates of beer were procured ), well the party was delayed 10 mins because " I promised this guy I'd help him with something..." and yh, kinda weird xD

So this one time I sneaked into FF14 at my work laptop (again), I was doing manual crafting that time and did not expect my senior colleague was behind me and he noticed me doing my crafts. The conversation :

Him : "Oh wow, what game is this?" *noticed name on the taskbar* "Final Fantasy?"
Me : *gracefully Alt + Tab to FF14 Lodestone, showing a list of random players* "Um... it's just a website...?"
Him : "Oh, okay" *backs to work*

(It was night time in-game and lodestone happened to have black background so he can't tell much of a difference)

Dodge that one bullet that could lead me to getting fired for playing games at work. :v

Wow! I dropped my addition to the thread here thinking it wouldnt measure up to some of the funnier stories and its buried on the third page so no one would see it. Its got way more likes than i expected! Thanks! Almost makes me want to post more of my stories with me and my son playing. Its so much fun playing with him and I see him doing better at 9yo on a PS3 than some of the other people we pug.

One of the tanks for my t6-9 group has to constantly run it by his partner if its OK for him to raid if we ever need to change the raid day.. we joke that we actually have 9 members in our raid group coz we cant raid unless the 9th member says its ok..

When we first got t9 down, he told his partner and she said "o good, you beat the game so you don't have to play anymore right?" *absolutely serious face*

With a friend who played WoW:

And so on and so forth.

My 6 year old daughter now knows all about DPS, Healer, Tank, retainers, minions, dungeons, etc. from watching me play and asking 14 million questions.

Haha, I had an FC member who occasionally played with his little daughter. She loved fishing apparently.
She even healed a bit in a dungeon when he had to answer a phone call ('healing' meaning standing there and spamming cure on the tank, but no-one died so it was all good).

Hmmm well my mom understands that I can't pause the game and that at times I can be rather focused so will always ask me if I can do stuff or listen to. But at times(usually during titan or t5) she will come and chat while I'm trying to dodge... those can be some fun runs...

My son is deep into pokemon, and since some minions look like the free roaming monsters, he came to the conclusion that I could catch them like pokemons.

Just go Summoner class or Scholar and summon XD then he will think you capture pokemons

My mom constantly surprises me with her complete lack of understanding about anything dealing with MMOs since my dad and I both play them, since EverQuest for me and 10 years now for me(Runescape/Ragnarok Online), but her stories(she mostly just ends everything with "THIS IS TOO CONFUSING") are never as good as this one with a friend of mine.

Friend: What game are you playing now? That doesn't look like GW2.
Me: It's FFXIV.
Friend: There's FOURTEEN? Why would people keep buying them? And they really made an MMO? How would that even work?

Friend: CUTE WOLFIE, HOW MUCH IS THIS?

I didn't have the heart to let her know that it wasn't a wolf, but once I told her the price and that it had a subscription fee, she just dropped it and watched me play while asking some questions about it, and kept on going back to the "wolfie."

Me: Oh, they are small beginner enemies, I can just attack them but since I am high level they will just die in a hit *kills a thing*
Mum: ... well .... that's a waste... you could have at least ate it
Me: Ha! Well... actually sometimes they drop meat and if I cook it I can eat it.
Mum: Then why didn't you do that.
