    Chocobo Coloring

    Hello everyone.

I'm sure there are hundreds of posts for coloring your chocobo. I've read quite a few of them, I've followed graphs, I've followed calculators, I've even tried to use the color wheel as my guide, and I've followed how other people got to a specific color: Soot Black.

Soot Black is my goal, but here's the issue:
I have gotten my chocobo's color all the way to Abyssal Blue. That's the darkest it seems that I can make it without pulling my hair out. Every time I feed my chocobo Berries or Pears the color goes to Royal Blue. Everytime I feed my chocobo Apples or Pineapples my chocobo turns Regal Purple. I can't begin to describe how frustrating it is to keep going in these circles.

So now, my chocobo is Royal Blue. How annoying. Does anyone have any advice on how I can go from Royal Blue or Abyssal Blue to Soot Black. Do I have to lighten a specific color? All answers are appreciated for I am ready to just give up.

    Thank you.

From my Charts I would say you have to much blue and to less red, so in theory apple until it changes and then pear until it changes if it is not black then another apple.

Instead of this you could try a pinapple.
But from what you said you are doing all of this already, another way would be going back to void blue then use a valfruit until currant purple and then use a pinapple for soot black

    hope this helps

To jump out of the loop you could try the microfeeding method.
The calculator suggests you to feed:
    berry x1,
    pear x7,
    apple x8

But I tend to adjust calculations and instead would use:
    plum x1,
    pear x6,
    apple x8

Also the 8th RGB scale suggests:
    pineapple x1,
    pear x5,
    apple x6

Both ways could bring you to soot black, or close to it. This time fruit do not seem to need splitting so you can just feed them in that order (whichever you choose if any).

So...I managed to get to Deepwood Green. However, I'm not sure where to go from there. Every tip I find out contradict each other. I've been told to feed my chocobo Valfruit and Pineapples...Berries...and combinations of those fruits...I'm at a lost of what I should feed him to go from Deepwood Green to Soot Black. Any suggestions?

Deepwood grenn has the folowing numbers r25 g36 b28,
    Soot black is r37 g35 b30
so you would Need to increase red and blue without decreasing green, so you probably should feed it Doma plume+Cieldas pineapple+Valfruit (the order is not important) one each then start again until feather message Comes.

Alternatively my Chart says that from Deepwood green you Need to use valfruit to get black; but we don't know how much your rgb values differ from the Standard Deepwood Nubers (they could be a bit above or below) so I would asume the first method with three fruits works better because with just valfruit you could also get to void blue again...
I hope that helps and you get your black choci

    According to calculator it is:
    pineapple x1
    valfruit x1

    Or:
    pineapple x2
    valfruit x2

However after a little bit of tinkering I get the closest value to soot black with:
    apple x1
    pineapple x2
    plum x1
    valfuit x2

I had a similar dyeing adventure you are having but with patience i did hit the soot black. i bounced around a few times before i got lucky. The last few jumps were torture as i was so close. i went midnight blue -> deepwood green -> void blue -> deepwood green -> kobold brown -> sootblack

Remember its not an exact science and patience is your friend
Don't overfeed, when you are in those color ranges you are so close you want to take baby steps

    My last two steps:
i was at deepwood green and i fed one(1) pineapple and one(1) valfruit. rng wasnt with me and i ended up with Kobold brown. from there i fed one(1) plum. the rng gods took pity upon me and i got soot black.

    Good luck!

Just as a heads up you do realize that certain fruits cancel each other out right?

For example, giving x1 apple and x1 plum are going to null each other as shown below.

    Plum (-5, +5, +5)
    Apple (+5, -5, -5)

For reference, for anyone else viewing the thread and doing some manual tweaking, here is some fruit info.

    Chocobo Fruit

Plum - Lightens red hues but at the same time increases green and blue hues.
Apple - Deepens red hues but at the same time lessens green and blue hues.

Valfruit - Lightens green hues but at the same time increases red and blue hues.
Pear - Deepens green hues but at the same time lessens red and blue hues.

Pineapple - Lightens blue hues but at the same time increases red and green hues.
Berries - Deepens blue hues but at the same time lessens red and green hues.

    Plum (-5, +5, +5)
    Apple (+5, -5, -5)

    Valfruit (+5, -5, +5)
    Pear (-5, +5, -5)

    Pineapple (+5, +5, -5)
    Berries (-5, -5, +5)

*Note: Using the +/5 integer above for easier calculations.

Ah, that is correct. I have started with pineapple x1 and valfruit x1 and worked up and then forgot to check that

Thank you everyone! The help is more than appreciated...

Can I feed him all three different fruits (Valfruit, Plums, and Pineapples -1each) at the same time to hopefully get the result of soot black, or should I simply feed him one fruit at a time, wait for the color change, then feed him again, wait for color change, etc.?
