Back to discrepancies of main and off hand. This already exists and is compensated for, PLD relic sword and shield where the upgrade cost is divided among the two. Also this could serve as the divide between RDM and COR, where RDMs path goes with sword and CORs path goes with gun.

Cutlass falls into the rapier category and yes. Here is at one time the most popular and over powered one from FFXI that COR infact could use.

Actually no. Cutlass is more in line with the cavalry saber, except the saber is longer while the cutlass is wider and shorter. Rapiers are used as thrusting weapons while the cutlass and saber are made for cutting. That's two entirely different fighting styles.

Thank you, I am not the only one that didn't over look the fact that Cid is basically a Chemist. Ranged tanks almost never work well, and I doubt it is going to be a DD since we are all ready saturated with them. The gun class will be a Chemist of sorts using 'Potions' like Aqua Vitae and Fortis for heals/buffs/debuff. I say 'Potions' because these will not be consumables.

He said it'll be something people won't expect meaning:

1. Goes back to him not playing XI and he ends up making Corsair again, because that's something no one would have expected when you mention "Gunner", because how many MMOs have a Gunner that's also an amazing support role?
2. He stated it'll be a Magic user, so not chemist, but will be a "mage".

It'd be easier if he just...told people about it. Hell we were getting info on Blue Mage and Corsair up to a year prior to it's release when they were showcasing ToAU expansion for XI, even if some of the main stuff they showed off we never got for Blue Mage, e.g Spider Web.

Where did he mention it will be a magic-user? Serious question, not being a rear end in a top hat. I never saw that mentioned in anything I looked over.

It was an off comment sometime around E3 where he said that it'll use Magic, trying to remember exactly when since it was when he was throwing out some details about Rogue/Ninja and people kept asking about Musketeer/Gunner.

Ah, thank you. I'll see if I can find a video or something. That would be an entirely new aspect to look at, for now I still put my money on Chemist but I could be wrong. We are sorely lacking caster DPS and healers, but we're about at the end of the usual gimmicks for healers.

Chemist has nothing to do with magic.

I too agree that it probably is chemist because in the history of Final Fantasy we don't have many healers other than white mage, chemist, and now potentially dancer since in FFXI they were healers.

No, Chemist doesn't have anything to do with magic but we also have no 100% confirmation. No video or document showing it was stated. It also wouldn't be the first time YP misspoke. See the great DEX vs STR debate for Ninja.

In FFXI rapier type weapons were essentially cutlasses, few of them were actually rapier shaped and those that were, were more of a cross between a rapier and a cutlass than an actual rapier. This is a video game not reality and that is how it was in ffxi. The icon for most rapier based swords were all of the cutlass shape. Also the most rapier like style sword(a fencing sword) category in FFXI were Fluerets, which COR could not use but only RDM and DRG(who never would dare use one). Also cutlass come in a variety ranging from the rapier like style to the scimitar like style. But yes a cutlass even similar to a rapier is heavier make, made for slashing were a rapier is a piercing sword.
