Something similar to this (Chemist-FFT)
and this.. (Alchemist-FF10-2)
I think the gun class will be a healing class... “Combine items and master their use.”
This will make potions more relevant also giving the use of certain potions a cast bar instead of instance cast.

I want to be just like Chief Admiral Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn when I grow up. So I want 2 guns to shoot all the nasty Sahagin trash with.
All the Musketeer NPCs, who are already ingame, use only guns (one hand or two hand) and no rapiers.
Also, Gladiators were the only class who used 2 different weapon types (swords and daggers). And since 2.3 the daggers were removed from them (except the dated daggers if you had still one).
I think what Yoshida mean is that Musketeer would be a tank class. Not many would expect this ^^

Give me a shotgun and make it a tank!
Not that I care about this topic much, but WHM and BLM can use wands and staves. Why? Who the hell knows. Illusion of choice, I guess.
Also, all daggers were reconverted to swords. For all intents and purposes the daggers were simply short sword models as they were mechanically no different than swords. If you had a dagger it became a sword (new model, new icon).
Except if it isn't using magic with the sword it ain't a RDM.Back to discrepancies of main and off hand. This already exists and is compensated for, PLD relic sword and shield where the upgrade cost is divided among the two. Also this could serve as the divide between RDM and COR, where RDMs path goes with sword and CORs path goes with gun.
Actually no. Cutlass is more in line with the cavalry saber, except the saber is longer while the cutlass is wider and shorter. Rapiers are used as thrusting weapons while the cutlass and saber are made for cutting. That's two entirely different fighting styles.
------------
My money is still on the gunblade class being our "gun class that we didn't expect". Probably a healer based on how Cid acted in combat.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
I too am expecting the gun class to be Musketeer. It wouldn't be the first time Yoshida plays tricks to try and get people to brainstorm about his words just for fun. My best bet is that when he said "it's not going to be what people are expecting", he was mostly referring to the playstyle. A lot of people are basically expecting something identical to Archer but with a gun, and I'm sure he'd want something more different. But as for lore, guild and name, yes, my bets are all on Musketeer.
With all that aside, I don't really mind which it will be, long as it will come with one-handed gun/s. I've got enough of two-handed guns in FFXI.
