Jeez, it's all about having fun and finding different ways to enjoy your character. I've clearly been instructed that there are more effective ways to make money, but this is fun for me. The message I'm taking from this is that I think too small.

Daily posting limit? Wow. Anyhoo, Moqi there's a big quest prompt that says "Que for XX in Dungeon finder." Players are also taught how DF works while doing guildleves. I'm not taking advantage of anyone: that is crazy talk. People park in front of dungeons because they park in front of dungeons. As to your point about (fake) money: So? Everything in the game is fake. I assume you don't know how to heal people by waving your hands around when you're away from your keyboard?

    Lighten up.

You're bragging about taking advantage of some poor newbie who probably doesn't know how DF works. Congrats you tricked an old lady into giving you fake money.

And really, 1k runs for low level dungeons that take forever to do? Just level up dude, you get more than that just for breathing at lvl 50.

hes really not taking advantage of them. you can make that money in the dungeon, and for dps, you spend more time waiting than you do actually in the dungeon, but considering that you state that your main is a CNJ, you probably dont understand the pain of a 45 minute queue into a lowbie dungeon.

in the end, hes not chraging what you cant earn in the dungeon, and he is getting them in faster. he is actually helping them out.

I have leveled arcanist and am leveling thaumaturge, I know how the dps queues are. If they are just sitting outside the dungeon they probably don't know how the DF works and that they can do other stuff while they wait, and they probably don't have an FC/friends that can help them out and queue with them as tanks/healers. You're not helping anybody out, you're targeting ignorant/newbies to make some (laughable) fake money.

You wanna keep doing it, go ahead, no one's stopping you. But if you make a thread to brag about it I will laugh because it's embarassing.

As a crafter, I spend my time making items and selling them at a profit. Why make a profit? Because my time and the service I render by crafting are valuable and are limited.

Tanking is a valuable service. Some players don't want to wait in queue for half an hour and consider paying gil an acceptable trade. Quite frankly, we wouldn't have 45 minute tank queues if this practice was widely adopted. With my lvl 42 pally, I got like 5700 exp, 2700 Gil, and 174 grand company seals for adventurer in need bonus on my last roulette. Sorry, but that is not enough to entice me to take another half hour of my time to do another roulette. If mercenary tanking was more widespread, then more people would be enticed to do it. Existing tanks would be willing to spend more time in dungeons, and some dps would realize how nice it would be to be the one getting paid rather than paying, and would take up tanking.

I find it funny that the OP simultaneously has people laughing at how he is undercharging people and others accusing him of taking advantage of noobs. In the grand scheme of things, that is small money, but to a newer player, that is nothing to sneeze at. The most expensive armor and weapons you can buy from an in-game vendor (mid 40's level) are 4-5k gil.

To the OP, keep up your mercenary tanking. Don't be a jerk, but also don't sell yourself too short. Be the best tank around, so that when someone pays you, they will feel they got their money's worth. Learn your class. Learn the dungeons. Invest in good equipment (something that can be hard with only the money the game hands you). Remember your paying customer is one less person in the queue and you are doing your part to shorten the queues for others.

I .... don't understand this thread. Why would someone pay someone to do a level of content they apparently can't do? Why would someone charge a noob 1K to tank a lowbie dng for them? Why would a level 50 player even bother doing an annoying low level dng if they're only doing it for profit and said profit is 1k? In the time it takes to charge and exploit a new player (who may be a kid or old person who hasn't figured out df or may not have friends in the game and thinks this is the only way to avoid df drama) you could gather up friends and farm loot from a dng that drops stuff people are willing to pay many times more for (WP for example).

I mean, I could tots see why someone would pay players to run a ex Primal with them ... if said players agreed to play until the mount drops and to all pass on it. Thats a item you can't buy and if you have the gil then why risk playing with people who are ALL going to roll on it? I could see paying people to do the same for HM primals so that you can break down the items and either sell or craft the stuff. Heck, if I every get that good I would love to do that for people cause I like fighting primals and bosses more than trash mobs and the only non-choco mount I want is EARNED through tanking (And I really want that new Mogblade but IDK if I will ever take crafting that far ..).

But this ... just seems seedy and ... eww ;[

Players (atleast on MY sever ...) exploit Newbies far too much as is. I mean ... it was a damned NIGHTMARE sometimes trying to do dngs as a low level tank because I couldn't afford gear on the MB that would help me run a dng that COULD MAYBE drop something that would help me plug the gap til I can buy from higher level npc venders and advance the story ... .

The mercenary community on Balmung is surprisingly large. I'm not sure that it's actually a good thing for the game or not. Those 45 minute queues are because of the tank\dps job ratio, the fact that people from other mmos don't recognize the tanks in this game as "tanks" because of inefficient design (and consequently won't play them), and the party size being a baffling 4 people instead of 5 which better balances the "trinity". Nothing short of fixing these issues will shorten queues, not even encouraging mercs.

The OP doesn't seem to be taking advantage of anyone.... yet. He's a low level tank selling his services to other low level players and barely making any gil on it. I have no opinion on what he's doing at this moment in time. We'll just wait and see whether or not he starts advertising in the PF with outrageous prices or not. I will say that in general, I'm starting to think that the Balmung community is not one of the better ones this game has to offer.
