I like @giantslayer's idea the most for Chemist. I am a main healer myself, leveled both WHM and SCH and love the different healing style both of them offer. In my head, Chemist will be similar to FFT's chemist like some of you suggested:

    - Instant cast, no interruption
    - Single target, with instant fast cast, CD ability for AoE attack situations
    - TP use instead of MP
    - Shorter range than WHM and SCH

This will make Chemist a fast pace move around healer that plays differently than WHM and SCH.

Chemist/Salve-Maker would go very well with a Level 50 Alchemist.

    Well either the chemist have:
    1. An AE heal with a static ward / totem
    2. A throwable AE heal equal to cure 3
    3. A channeling single target heal skill

Channeling is a really bad idea in this game with the amount of movement involved. It would gimp any class immediately.

Giantslayer definitely has sound ideas, I like the mix of a small initial and a ramp up or down hot. If its going to buff with its elixirs though it would need a way to prevent it from just spamming buffs on someone. It would almost have to be sorta like IB where you have to build stacks and use it when it really counted or an ability on CD that would grant special affects to any elixirs used within the next x seconds.

I think it would be a very great idea. Maybe with new Healing Skills type... A throwing potion animation when healing someone for example. I would like to see an healer using potion and items... something like RIkku in FFX (of course she is not an healer type char but think of her limit and object mixing for healing)

I like this idea too, but the crafting class is a maybe. Would do alchemist at 15 and conjurer at 30 for this in my mind. Or maybe Thaumaturge in the mix instead of alchemist.
I like the idea of being maybe a field maker. Think of it like you throw the potion to a select area, it causes a HoT on the ground and/or buff. This is something I think is needed and would make them stand out. A support character designed more to buff the other players. We got healers for single and groups, but why not make one that can do areas on the ground? Nothing says that they couldn't throw down multiple zones, just lets say they can't stack through a single caster (like how two white mages can both put regen on a person, but a single can't stack them on someone).
And yeah, their weapon could be something new like a potion, or just uses the alchemy items. Might seem strange but it could make sense in my mind.

Personally I would prefer a dancer (Frontline Healer) rather than a chemist, because chemists usually focus on their "mix" ability and they would be rather hard to balance.

Haha imagine having a dancer heal class, where you combo the heals and hitting the right combo provides buffs e.g maintain the correct combo provides a 5% def buff.

or a stacking buff for healing from the right sides of the targets giving the affect of dancing around the party to heal.

I just don't really think 'dancing' to heal really fits into FFXIV. I never really thought it felt in place in FFXI. Bard I sort of get, music to inspire and invigorate the troops but I feel a dancer should be more of a distraction to enemies and less of a boon to allies.

Chemist would sort of fit into the game lore wise with the Garlean's. Native Garlean's are incapable of using magic if I remember correctly, which is why we see them throwing potions and using Magitek, like Cid's Aqua Vitae or Fortis from various troops around the Garlean strongholds. (Correct me if I am wrong.) So Chemist could work well I feel.

Dancer, its more a petty thing I suppose. I just always felt the class was cheeky and out of place.

I disagree I think the best thing Square Enix did to Dancer was make them into a healer, they wouldn't be very useful as debuffers and the only other possible role I can see them doing is tanking. In addition to that when dancer was new many people that never even imagined themselves playing a healer tried and enjoyed the dancer job because a melee healer was a concept rarely used in any other mmo and it actually engaged the players more than the current healers do.

But I do think that chemist is our new healer since the gun class has yet to be released and they already have a guild.
