People are rude in this game in general, my friend is new and that's one of the first things he said was how he noticed people are just nasty to each other. It's because they can be, you can't be this cruel to some people in real life and nothing happens to you. Unless someone here has gone up to their boss and said "die in a fire" and just happily went about their day.

Yeah lets blame them all from the new guy who tells the vet player to stfu after they explain combos while they just spam the last move in the combo thinking it's working or to the guy who rants on what horrible things he will do to the new persons family if they could because of how bad they're tanking and lost hate.

The amount of sweeping generalizations, holier than thou attitude and hypocrisy in this thread is hilarious.

Newbies are not cruel, veterans are not cruel. It's people that are cruel and just labeling them in one group is pathetic attempt at passing anecdotal evidences as proof.

Too many people in this thread are blaming noobs for being treated badly and saying what they should differently. Stop blaming the victims. They're noobs. They don't know anything. They don't even know they could say they're new. They just know they're being yelled at and not having fun.

Yelling at someone is one of the most useless things you can do. People don't respond well to being yelled at by strangers so it almost never fixes the problem. When you yell at people, you're acting like a noob who doesn't know how to game.

If you want to succeed, be patient and offer some advice. If someone is trying to tank or heal, then be especially patient with them. Why? Check out the long dps queue, that's why. Every time you help a new tank or healer stick around, it helps reduce the queue. Telling someone to give up or play dps simply increases queue length.

So if you were doing something in real life that you were new to, you wouldn't say that? You pretty much always know you're new to something, and it's disrespectful, regardless of playing a game or being in real life, to not inform the people you will be working or playing with.

In this game is the first time I heard about the word enmity. In my beginnings it might as well have said "Increases fun in all nearby enemies", would make no difference.

Not saying it's your fault or trying to justify the other party in this but maybe look up stuff on the internet before hand? I do this with almost any MMO I play, find the basics then work on the advance before even touching the game. I mean I just Google'd for "FFXIV tank help" and it came up with a lot of useful links. Not saying it's bad to ask for help and not saying it's right to be cruel to new players, I'm just saying there are sources out there you just have to put in effort and look for them. Also most likely if they give you a skill it's probably there for a reason, bit of common sense no?

So when you don't know what a word means, you don't try to find out at all? Not to mention, the gladiator quest that was mentioned earlier in the thread tells you what flash is used for and does.

To new players: Communicate. Talk/ask/say something, if you're new or have questions, etc. This is common sense.
If you're on a console, the gamepad excuse won't fly in an MMO. I am sorry, but that's the cold/hard truth.

To veterans: Listen/answer/educate, if you're experienced on game mechanics, etc. This is common snese, too.
The more you try to speed run a new player, the longer that run will take.

We have a new player's guide somewhere on the Lodestone, too.
It'd be nice if more new players went through that first and foremost before logging on.

If someone starts off saying that they're new in a dungeon, I will help them out as long as they are willing to learn.

If someone goes off and starts screwing up, won't listen when people ask them to do things right/give advice...then I won't be so nice since as far as I'm concerned you're just trolling.

You have to speak up and listen when people give advice. If you don't know what something means, either ask, or consult the almighty Google. And look up what you're getting into too; at least having an idea what you're supposed to do will get you much further than stumbling in the dark.
