Tanaka? You mean that guy who was totally out of touch with both the fanbase and the rest of the MMO market, had ridiculous policies which frustrated FFXI players for years, stunted FFXI's potential, and ran FFXIV into the ground? Yeah, that guy sounds like a great alternative to Yoshi-P... -_-

Remember back when Tanaka was still producer of FFXIV? In one interview shortly after FFXIV's release, he specifically stated that the environments wouldn't ever be changed because the dev team was very proud of them (not sure why anyone would be proud of such terrible environments, but that's what he said). But thanks to Yoshi-P's fresh perspective and lack of emotional attachment (which would only bias him), we're now getting new, redesigned environments after all.

Even in FFXI, there were things players had been begging for for years, but it never seemed like the dev team was listening until Tanaka left FFXI to work on FFXIV, at which point FFXI almost instantly started becoming much better.

Plus, if we were still operating under Tanaka's old policies, these forums likely wouldn't even exist, as Tanaka seemed to hate official forums for some odd reason (FFXI never had official forums until the end of 2010, which is just sad for an MMO that was originally released in 2002). In fact, Tanaka's mysterious and illogical reasoning for not having official forums is likely one of the biggest factors that contributed to the original dev team's ignorance of what players really wanted in a new FF MMO.

In contrast, the only bad thing I can say about Yoshi-P is that it's unfortunate he didn't replace Tanaka sooner.

Just hope improvements to soloing are a lot more pronounced instead of hardly noticeable. Since I'm forced to solo due to work and school, I'd still like to reach endgame!

    What direction?

"throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the game and seeing what happens?"

I can agree that Tanaka was overly closed minded. But yoshi, he's the opposite. He's just too open-minded.

He hates FFXIV more than we do and doesn't even understand the game. I don't think either Yoshi or Tanaka can bring FFXIV to its full potential alone. But if i had to choose one, I would choose Tanaka.

Besides, lots of features in FFXIV were (pretty much) direct plagiarisms from systems in other games (like Vanguard: Saga of Heroes) so to say they were out of touch with the industry is a bit of a stretch.

When? 10 years from now... Please be realistic and open your eyes that he failed. He failed at alpha, at closed beta, at open beta, and damn sure failed at release. Why? Because his team didn't listen to beta testers. Why have a beta test forum if you're not going to listen to people's ideas to make the game much more enjoyable and up to today's standards in what a mmorpg should be. The truth sure hurts. Quite frankly I personally think that SE needed this so they can come back to reality and see that it's the consumers that makes them successful, not the name itself.

FFXIV has so much potential that it's going to take an open mind to keep it alive. Someone that makes their customers happy. Tanaka had his time.. Now it's Yoshi's!

Now now, what is this negativity? What's past is past, let's look towards the future, and personally I like the vision Yoshi-P has for the game. I hope he and the entire team continue to give us their all.

Thanks Yoshi for all the hard work you and your dev team put into the game. It is turning out amazing and I for one have the most faith in FFXIV's success. Keep up the amazing work! <3 SE
