Which Crafting Job is the best for profit?

Hi, So I'm trying to to start a crafting job, but I don't know what would be best in the long run for money...I want to make enough money to buy a house one day, but I haven't the slightest clue how to make big money If there is an alternate way other than crafting, that would be helpful as well....
Also a friend said that players don't really make big money unless they are super elite geared and does EVERYTHING...... is that true?

I got all 50 crafting class but I never actually earn anything from it.
I earn quite a lot from gathering instead, miner and botanist.

The trick here is to find something that the player wants. If they want it really bad, they'll pay for it. So of course those that can craft 3 star Items are where the good stuff is usually, and then makes more money.

Doesn't mean that you cannot make decent income as well.

Right now, I'm making money from Gardening.

You can get a peisteskin map and be lucky, and getting a blue bird minion: and you can sell it for a hefty amount.

Same with King Tomato, etc.. (Thavnairian Onion sells for 1 million + )

It's nice to see you want to craft ^^

For me, since I want to try to be best at what I'm doing and what's available, I leveled up all of my crafters to 50, to unlock all their cross-class skills.

Some other stuff to look for: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...2/blog/443599/

Looking at your character, I would suggest to start getting your Miner and Botanist to lvl 50.

The mats you'll get for your crafters for 'free' as well as selling those that people want for their own recipes (check Market Board) will help a lot.

Craft-wise, at lvl 30 you'll be able to start making your own Dyes, and before Ixali Beast tribes, which you can get soot black and snow white for 216 Gil, you could have sold them around 800 Gil per unit (higher before, but now everyone makes their own pretty much ^^)

Anyway, take it slow, don't give up, and you'll get your house.

With my battle class without doing much you can easily make 20k, (Challenge Log is your friend) Daily Hunts that's 3000 Gil..

    Good Luck.

It becomes easier to make money when you have more options, especially as some markets will blow up and become unprofitable for a week or a month. Being able to switch to another market is useful in such cases.

There are several schemes, each playing the market. So you will want to check which specific items are in demand on your server. Almost every class has 1 or 2 that are in demand, and may require some cross-referencing. Look for items in high demand and then find which mats are needed for them. As an example, silver sharks and hammerhead sharks are usually in high demand for Fishers because of their uses in SCoB progression and crafting. Raptor leather, snurble tufts, and fleece drop from enemies and are very profitable if you only have combat classes. If you're leveling a single crafter, goldsmith is a good one to 50 for its versatility. You can level desynth on it, and be able to produce all 3 types of demimateria to sell. Alternatively, you can craft lv.45 accessories and use those to spiritbind grade3/4 materia for all classes. So far, those tend to be the most stable markets for selling.

Gardening requires you to already have a FC house, so that is probably not a viable option for you now. It's something to work towards though. When you do garden though, you will also want a geared lv.50 botanist and miner to get the seeds and topsoil you need to raise the crops.

Then you're doing it wrong. With all crafts at 50, I can make MILLIONS per day, if I choose to focus on crafting. I don't do this all the time, but I make sure to keep my float above 10 million. When I drop below that, it doesn't take long at all to get back up.

To answer the OP, your question is too general to answer. It depends on so many factors, and on my server the most profitable DoH today isn't the same as a week ago today. It's about knowing your servers economy. Finding voids, and filling them, albeit temporarily. It never takes long for other people looking to make money to figure out where your money is coming from. But on Balmung right now, I'm making a killing with LTW. Last week it was WVR. Before that it was GSM.

And I suppose you have at least 500 MILLIONS now?

Very interesting, so crafting for profit should not focus on merely one craft, but a variety? I feel like the ffxiv market/economy much more complicated than I thought... this is going to take time getting used to @_@
Thank you all for the various answers! I guess for now I will focus on my gathering/mining/fishing before I touch bases with a craft.... probably will do carpenter or blacksmith to start off on my craft in the long run before I attempt others. I tend to do very bad when I am unorganized, so will focus on one thing at a time (even had to make a new character after a long hiatus because I honestly have no idea what to do or where to go with my old character >_< )

The big thing to note about crafting is that the classes have synergy. Each class has three unique commands (at level 15, 37, and 50), which can be transferred to other crafting classes and used by them as well. So to be able to craft the best, you will eventually want all classes at 50. In addition, all crafting classes (right now) can share accessories. However, maxing effort on each individual class past that will require some heavy investment as well - and it takes reaching the highest level to reach the genuinely most profitable things.

That said, each crafter has things people want - either perpetual markets with constant demand (Culinarian's food, every other crafter's Glamour Prisms), major purchases that other gatherers/crafters will seek (Almost all high tier crafter equipment comes from Weaver, Goldsmith, or Leatherworker), or special 'larger' purchases that might not be frequent but can be very expensive (Special glamour gear, housing furniture, etc.). There's money to be made from all of them - the question is just which, and how good you can get it in order to partake in those markets. Competition in a given market can play a big part too - how many other people are capable of producing those two or three star crafts on your server. I wouldn't expect a single server to have a freakishly high population in one class, but it can have a heavy effect.

Also I want to make a note: Miner/Botanist are very different gathering classes from Fisher. Fisher is really only relevant to Culinarian, and in fact relevant to very little of Culinarian to boot. You have to really, really, really dedicate yourself as a Fisher, and have done your research (90% of fish are useless) to make it profitable. Compared to Botanist and Miner, the benefit of Fishing is low.

If I had to pick just one, I'd go GSM. Tons of gil to be made from selling/binding jewelry.

Multiple lv.50 crafting classes are needed to HQ reliably at higher levels. They become almost mandatory for 2-star recipes and higher, unless you fancy spending 500myth/45k seals on mats for a 30% chance (approximate) at HQ. HQ items also SB faster, so there's some merit in leveling all the crafters for SB purposes as well. HQ doesn't matter so much for desynth, so you don't need it for that.

The classes with the most useful cross-class abilities are Carpenter (lv.15 rumination, lv.50 byregot's blessing), Alchemist (lv.15 Tricks of the Trade, lv.50 comfort zone), Culinarian (lv.15 hasty touch, lv.37 steady hand 2), goldsmith (lv.15 manipulation), and weaver (lv.50 careful synthesis2). Getting all of these will greatly improve your ability to HQ, especially hasty touch, rumination, byregots, and tricks of the trade. The others are of minimal worth until you tackle 1-star and higher.

The usual method is to conserve CP and increase quality. Use your CP to improve your success rate (steady hand) and restore durability, although you may spend CPon various touch skills if the item is in good or excellent condition. Once you've gotten it as high quality as you can, spend the rest of your CP on synthesis to fill the progress bar and finish the craft.

The best way to level a crafter and gatherer are by using leves. You get more xp and reward for turning in HQ items, but they're not absolutely necessary. After lv.30, some leves will even make profit for you if you watch how much you spend on mats.
