I would not mind if this was implemented, but like others have mentioned, there needs to be a reason to go out to experience that content, if not it would just be a waste of resources and time making it which could be spent on other things. The reason why I loved grinding in open world in previous games was that mobs, even low level ones, had a small chance, say 0.1% to drop something useful, be it a crafting material, some cards, a minion, or some rare recipe. Also, these materials could be sold or traded so if one were to feel lucky, they can use it as a way to earn some money.

I could see them introducing it in line with Triple Triad, having each mob drop its own card at a small drop rate. That would surely get people out instead of in cities the whole time. Another good idea in this thread is that these mobs can give significantly more experience to spiritbonding, but it could just as easily become as easily camped as urth if they don't provide proper alternatives. Either way, I hope they can introduce mechanics like this soon, if not 2.4 then in the expansion.

Sorry, but it doesn't. The poisonous fumes that takes away player's HP at alarming rate are gone. That also includes the fight with Marlboro too. lol

Except it isn't. I played XI for a long time and loved the hell out of that game. That said, I look back at it now and there's a lot about the game I see and go "Euuugh." And there are some things I remember fondly now that I *hated* when I played the game.

I'm not saying people didn't like XI. I'm not saying that that my opinion is the end-all be-all of ANYTHING. What I am saying is that a lot of times people have fond memories of stuff that (at the time) were likely not fond memories. But they choose to dress it up as something better than it was.

People have done this since time immemorial. It's like listening to our parents or grandparents (or any other adults who are quite a bit older than us) talk about the "good ole days" and how much better things were back then. Except, they weren't really better, but the passage of time makes people fond of things in their past, and allows them to forget or gloss over the things they may not have liked or that may have been bad.

That's what the concept of "nostalgia goggles" represents - looking into the past and not noticing the blemishes that were there and that you were fully aware of at the time.

Well, expand on what you liked and didn't like. Let's get to the specifics so we can understand our tastes.

There should be no excuse to not have dangerous open world areas, because 1) you don't lose exp points when you die 2)you can HP and teleport back to where you were with ease 3) mobs have their owns they can't move from, so they're easily escapable.

Sorry but I cant agree here. While the concept exists and is a very real factor in how people view things in their past, there is no way for other people to judge what a person does and does not perceive through "nostalgia goggles".... I have been told that myself for many things that I have done recently. Its very frequently used incorrectly and mostly motivated by the other party's own past experience (double edged sword, how come you know exactly how it was back then but I don't?) rather than it being supported by anything. I think it is a very bad argument and people should stop using it and instead argue facts and opinions of systems rather than "nah, you just nostalgia goggles".

No thanks having lv99 mobs that could one shot you while traveling was not a fun feature. It was very annoying and time wasting. If you died you had to waste your limited anima to get back to where you were trying to go.

I beat all the story quests in 1.0 and toward the end there were some story quests that made you run through zones with level 99 mobs. There were a couple ways you could handle this. The first one was wait wait wait wait and wait some more so the monsters randomly were in just the right spot you can run by without aggroing them. 2nd way was to have a friend come along and suicide pull stuff so you can run by (I had someone do this for me a couple times, when he needed the mission I helped him). 3rd way was to use the paladins invincible move mount up and run through the 99 mobs hope you can get far enough from them before it wears off. This had like a 10 min cooldown so you had to wait a long times in between pulls.

Having a bunch of high level mobs that can easially one shot you was 1 thing I surely don't miss from 1.0.

    Wrong.

The original 1.0 AV has poisonous fumes when you enter the large area with poison puddle. The fumes alone are already dangerous. Add that by stepping into puddle will even worse your HP droprate.

At start, party have to run to far room that contains berries. Eating berries will nullify damage from fumes, but still take damage from poison puddles. There are blue & red berries. I forgot which one does nullify and which doesn't. And the fruit has short duration that requires player to eat them again in the next area.

Back then, WHM has ability to AOE regen. This is very important to at least even out the damage gotten from fumes. And 2 WHM need to rotate their AOE regen duty perfectly so that party didn't suffer more poison damage.

Now that current ARR has WHM unable to AOE regen anymore, tweaks were made. Now the poison fumes completely gone, in a way though. Fumes still exist, but as part of 1st & last boss attack which will later on force players to eat fruit to nullify that bad status.

You can watch the old 1.0 AV run at youtube. You will notice the screen went yellow-ish when party enter toxic zones, meaning the fume damage starts taking effect. And by then, you will see WHM starts doing AOE regen, then switch to other WHM for another AOE regen, so on till party enter non fume areas.
