    My thoughts...

A growing light o'er all the realm
    - Adventurers and the creation of the new grand company.

    Fingers bright on highlands white
    - Shiva's influence grows in the north.

In an instance, a blade that smites the night.
    - An assassination. Perhaps the king of Ishgard.

But ill winds rise as the great gates yawn
    - The gates of Ishgard shall open. Possibly due to the assassination.

Hope rides to meet what naught can cheat
    - This makes me think that we will represent hope and ride out to meet death. Perhaps this references the Ascian's and the way they keep cheating death. Minfilia was looking for a way to kill them after witnessing the events with the Sahagin. Perhaps we ride out with purpose to kill an Ascian. Dealing the first true blow to their cause.

An old despair astride a new-shod mare...
    - An old despair. Three ideas come to mind. Bahamut, the Ascians, the Allag. A new-shod mare could be a mount but it could also mean a soul riding a new body. The coil would be wrapping up by the end of the poem here, and the Ascian storyline will be building to the first expansion. I think those are our best bets.
if Bahamut he could possibly be reincarnated or re-summoned into a new form that's smaller are more potent.
Even better would be Omega in a combination Allag Ascian threat. In PvP they already hinted at Omega's existence. It could be Ascians using it in place of Ultima.

Actually Ishgard pulled out of the Alliance long ago - they don't have a Grand Company, and there would be no reason for them to form one given their continuing neutral attitudes to the Alliance. If anything this just probably alludes to the growing amount of adventurers all flocking to defend the realm due to the player's actions.

Ishgard is a theocracy (a country ruled by a church) and not a kingdom. Their head of state is an archbishop. But yes, given the recent revelations concerning the Holy See, it's entirely possible the player is going to be forced to take drastic action in order to avoid all out war. But I guess we'll see.

I'm talking about the one we helped Alphinaud Leveilleur create in 2.3 that is made up of adventurers.

King, Bishop. Whatever. The leader of the city. Splitting hairs man. The point stands. I think someone very high in political importance will be assassinated.

I don't think we're done with Bahumut in coil 3. I believe we fail in the "best" sense. We don't stop Bahumut but he escapes (or is forced to flee) before being totally renewed by the allagan technology. It'll be Omega weapon (which our fellow Eorzeans and/or Scions unearth) that takes out Bahumut.

The dragonkin plauging Ishgard is invgorated by Bahumut's presense. They have no choice but to swallow their pride and ask Eorzea for help...knowing how they refused Eorzea to help against the Garlean Empire.

I think that's very plausible. Also, don't forget about the scheming Lala's in Ul'dah. I wonder if that plot is going to thicken instead.
