Most of this info in this post sounds like WoW , I also played on Sargeras pvp server. I am open to SOME ideas maybe. If I wanted to play WoW again I wouldnt be playing FFXIV.

ajx, Yoshi a while back said if there was a demand for such gameplay he'd consider it. And in order for it to make sense you got to like free for all pvp, no rules. some players dig that intensity in all it's forms. it's not for the faint of heart.
Hailie, open world freedom pvp has nothing to do with WoW. in that case other games nailed such gameplay before WoW, like DAoC. But NO! open world pvp is something big games like FF should adopt, it's 2014 and all big house MMOs will offer it in some shape or form. Black Desert, Archeage, Lineage Eternal, ESO etc. and guess what, some of us in FFXIV crave it. Are we enough to deserve a server?, I think Yes. take a look at this thread, it's picking up![]()
To a PvM carbear perspective, maybe. Open world PvP is the most logical story wise.
Think of the story setting this game is in. We're in an era where there are pirates, thieves, gangs, etc roaming the entire world. It's more illogical, story wise, for people to not get attacked/robbed/killed randomly.



If there was a way to "shift" to a full PVP phase then that would be fine with me, because it would be optional. The best example I can think of is DCUO. Normally, you're just in standard PVE world. However, they have phase shifters that shift you to PVP phase. I would support this b/c it's fully optional.

FF was never about the ability to gank any other player you wanted to. If you really enjoy doing that then you have issues. Turn the tables and you wouldn't like it. Level difference lock wont work when you will just bait lower levels with other lower levels. Differences in gear would cause such an unbalance besides ganging up on single targets. It would just ruin FF. If they decide to have pvp servers that are seperate then go for it. Otherwise nope.
That's the point of this thread, actually. There have been numerous other conversations about adding it as a core feature to the game which have been, needless to say, unpopular. And I, too, would be opposed to forcing all servers to participate in the unbalanced gankfest that is open-world PvP. People who join these kinds of environments understand what they're getting themselves into. We all realize that there is no balance in 1v1 and that there will be a large gear disparity between lower levels and higher levels - yet we enjoy the challenge and excitement of being in a dangerous world. Just look through the General Discussion forums and you'll find tons of PvE players clamoring for a return to the dangerous open world. They want real NMs, level 60+ mobs in certain areas, falling hazards, the list goes on. The fact is that the open world in this game is depressingly tame and the vast majority wants a return to a more threatening landscape to explore. Open-world PvP is a PvP player's solution to that tame open world. What's more dangerous than the fact that you could die at any moment at the hands of another player? You don't have the freedom to simply farm mats, complete FATEs, or go on Hunts free from harassment, you have to fight the environment and be ready for any opportunistic vulture that decides to sweep in when you're guard is down.

The one thing that does get me with this game is the lack of danger from aggro mobs... I remember having rams chase me across latiene... or hearing the grunt a gob made if it saw you. If there is enough players wanting a separate pvp server they should do it. I imagine they will have to make it make sense lore wise on those servers, lack of continuity always bothered me ie: Marvel etc.
