They're not new sadly lol They're old names from 1.0 that he name dropped. Atleast new in the sense we haven't been there yet but most of the Wandering Minstrel dialogue was the same from when we met him for the Goobbue mount. My attention was also caught by the name-dropping of these two new locations (Xarakish and Voor Sian Siran). I noticed that they were phrased as places he'd seen on Hydælyn, not necessarily Eorzea. I'd say there's a decent chance that these places exist on continents yet to be accessible until expansions. Maybe places in Doma or similar.

Does this make it now the 6th Year of the Seventh Umbral Era? (I tend to ignore that the leaders called in a new Astral Era, since there's so many problems in Eorzea)

My name is Anonymoose and I support this message.
Geez, Noloe, you must have as much saved as I do! Alas, he's right. While these names are hints about places we've never been, they also seem to be the Minstrel's own personal Team Rocket speech.
As far as we know, the year is still trapped in the same bubble it was at launch (and probably will be for the rest of the game). These events seem to take place throughout the 5th Year of the Seventh Umbral Era also known as the 1st Year of the Seventh Astral Era, whether you agree with the company leaders or not. If you look at your journal, the system even goes out of its way to change the heading to Seventh Astral Era after The Ultimate Weapon. Yes, we've only managed to turn the tide against the imperials and kick Lahabrea in the shin. Yes, the primals are still here. Yes, the Ascians are still growing in power. Yes, there are still at least four years of content and several expansion packs in various stages of planning. Doesn't seem like the right time to declare a new era, no?Originally Posted by The Wandering Minstrel

One need not be an oracle to previse the great ill which casts a shadow across this forsaken realm. You would do well to make ready for the coming darkness, lest it consume you.
But, hey, for all we know, maybe it's only an Umbral Era while a Calamity is in full swing and we're pretty sure we're going to lose. There are some challenges on the horizon, but we're doing pretty good, yeah? Morale's pretty high. I'm ready to win. Even dealing with primals has gone from "We're all gonna die!" to the opening from Ghostbusters 2. Alarm goes off, we suit up while making jokes and psyching up, fly out, kick ass, and we're back for brunch.

While translation is a large part of our job, what is not known by many is that the EN localization team plays a large role in the creation of a lot of in-game terminology and lore which is then localized back into Japanese (with liberties often taken by the Japanese team so that the text might appear more appealing to their target Japanese audience).

Aw, that's somewhat of a downer to hear they're not actually new. Still though, I do wonder where said locations exist in the world and if we'll ever actually get to visit them

Before the Echo was triggered he recited a verse of one of Louisoix's prophecies that we'd already been given. That verse pertained specifically to the current events we're seeing in Coerthas, and presumably Shiva. There's an area in each city, with some NPCs who you can talk to, but Limsa is the main one for the quest.
Also, in one of the minstrel's songs, was he talking about upcoming events, I remember he mentioned something about snow covered highlands and gates "yawning" open, possibly referencing Ishgard.
Once the Echo hit us and we went to the aetherial realm he gave us a new verse of the prophecy, however, which appears to be about the expansion. As you say that talk of opening gates was almost certainly a reference to Ishgard. There was reference to an old enemy as well, which I would assume to be Lahabrea. It wouldn't surprise me if the final confrontation before the expansion is a rematch with our favourite Ascian.

That would be the prophecy from Louisoix's Journal that was released as part of Yoshi-P's 'new year's greeting' on the Lodestone at the beginning of the year, found here:

The added verse that the minstrel gave us is as follows:
The first line would appear to describe the growing power of the Warriors of Light.A growing light o'er all the realm
Fingers bright on highlands white
in an instance, a blade that smites the night.
But ill winds rise as the great gate yawns
Hope rides to meet what naught can cheat
an old despair astride a new-shod mare.
The second is a reference to Coerthas, though I have no idea what 'fingers bright' may mean.
The 'blade that smites the night' would most likely be the blade of light we used to defeat Lahabrea, though it's possible that this refers to Shiva as we know she uses a sword based on the few teases we've seen.
The 'great gate' is almost certainly the gates of Ishgard.
'What naught can cheat' would be death in my best interpretation.
It is my guess that the 'old despair' is Lahabrea; his 'new-shod mare' being his new host body.
