Oh oh how about beat turn 9, 10 times, or beat turn 5, 50 times!
Or maybe they'll reveal Supra-Atmas, obtained by trading in 3 of one atma to get the supra! So we can get 36 atma for our upgrade!
Or maybe... Okay okay how about this one, the upgrade requires Primal drops like Vortex Feather, Inferno horn, etc!
Oh! Oh! How about---- More Tier 4 materia? Maybe a new sphere scroll that takes nothing but T4!

Want a BiS weapon mailed to you?

What else can a game do other than gate such powerful weapons behind a raid boss? The options for relic weapon upgrades are never difficult, that is why those upgrades methods are so grindy and/or costly.

Don't want to raid for a weapon? Then deal with the crappy grinds.

Nah just commenting how they invent the most painful methods possible of furthering it. I am seriously betting it will have to do with Desynth, as that seems to be their pet-project lately they want to shove down our throats full-force. It also includes RNG which they are big fans of as a roadblock method.
