Simple. Who cares. Every job added is just a clone of another job with a different name and the same essential abilities with different names and animations themselves. When all is said and done, it's the same ol' in a different wrapper.

well coming from FFXI Dark Knight was a heavy DPS which sacrificed HP and DEF for Attack damage which I hope that SE keeps true to this which would require it to come from a brand new class using 2 handed swords or scythes and also using magic
most silly thing i have heard to date is corsair being a healer class, well SE have already mess up ARC/BRD so why not
Please look forward to it! ^^
As per OP - I think if you can equip Tank gear: you'll be inserted into the Tank class.
Samurai and DK seems to use heavy armor so... yup.
3.0 for me as well points to SAM, since we will have ninja in a few years.
Few years in Eorzean time lolol
I would like to see SAM as a tank class, just not sure how they'd design it to not feel like a WAR with a katana instead of an axe though.
DRK needs to be a DPS though, the whole "sacrifice HP for damage" is key in what a dark knight is and that is so counter to what tanks need to be doing.
@KingOfAbyss: Well DRG can wear some "heavy" just not "heaviest" armor so I could see DRK wearing stuff along the same lines.
Yeah because I play my monk the same as BLM the same as WAR the same as SCH....
I don't always pug, but when i do, it's with Pretty Ugly Guys

Sacrificing Def and HP for more damage seems rather nonfunctional. You'd be sacrificing to be on par with other dps...nothing more. Its not a bonus. That's like playing on my Dragoon with crappy magic defense except now I'd be killing myself in the process. Its bad enough taking the extra damage that I do from the lower magic defense. Add the fact that this game is not very melee friendly the least bit. I played a DK in FF11 but I just can't see it working in this game. There's just too many encounters where damage is unavoidable.

I really dislike the idea of Samurai being a tank, and I've seen plenty of people suggest it be an Evasion/Parry tank which I feel is just a bad idea. I've ranted about the idea of bringing SAM in as an evasion tank and it went a little something like this: An evasion tank is very hard to balance; you have to design a class around the idea that since they flat out dodge attacks, they will probably have less defense against hits. If RNGeesus decides to forsake you, you could see back to back hits that hurt. Moreover, as of current game mechanics, I believe parry is a very subpar stat. Parry tank is neat, but it’s kind of the same concept as a pally, mitigate damage in some form. Plus, from a Mythos stand point, bringing SAM in as a tank just rubs me the wrong way .This part is slightly opinionated, so bear with me. I do know samurai didn’t believe in shields (not to say they WOULD use shields, I am bringing this up to point out SAM is more offensive than defensive). There is tons of lore and myth on the idea that katanas were souls, and one was to cut with their soul. Part of training, and still utilized today, is one's Ki. In combat you are to force your warrior’s spirit, or Ki, out to overpower your foe. It’s different in areas, but it doesn’t come off as a defensive concept. That’s not to give the idea that samurai were purely offense > defense, but the focus emphasizes to defeat the foe, not to hold out against them. Another thing, samurai armor was not the strongest created. It was good, no doubt, but it's not like the steel of full plate which was far more protective.
Point is, samurai seems to me a class about defeating their foe with honed strikes, and a katana, or long sword, designed to utilize both hands for maximum power. Then, there is also the fact that in Final Fantasy, samurai classes have almost always had a focus on damage dealing, with extras on the side. Now, that isn’t to say SE couldn’t try something new, look at what they did with sticking Bard onto the Archer class, but I don’t think experimenting with SAM as a Tank would be a good fit.
I could see DRK being more plausible as a tank, the main concept being the idea of a Drain Tank which pops up when DRK is talked about as a tank the same way Parry/Evasion does for SAM. I feel that such an approach would be fitting to the DRK from a lore perspective, but again, it starts to become a question of balance. To be honest, I’d like to see just a straight up Knight class, one that would focus on the break moves from various FF Lore, like Armor Break, Mind Break, etc etc. This all just personal opinion of course, but that’s my two cents
