I mean what I say and say what I mean by all means. I say entitlement because he feels entitled to a novus weapon. Or at least that is the impression given when he insists on needing one when other options are presented. Yes, there is the sunk cost mentality that will keep players on the path even when the road ahead becomes unreasonable, but just because it's common doesn't make it correct. Or, to put it another way, just because players have spent a lot of effort on it already does not mean they should not add steps that certain players may be unwilling or unable to do. Hell, this all still doesn't seem as difficult as getting a relic in 1.0

In addition, his concerns are largely without merit. SBing gear of the appropriate level is now faster than ever, so if one specifically aims to SB, they can do so faster. This only hampered players who brought low level accessories to expert roulette, which many players were not a fan of anyway. In addition, I do not feel he should blame crafters for any of this. It's hard work to craft, especially at the high end, and they deserve a reward for all their effort, which usually means getting a profit. As others have pointed out, materials can be rather expensive, so it's not as if they're gouging the playerbase and laughing all the way to the bank. Not that you need to SB high level accessories anyway, tier 4 can still be obtained from level 45-50 stuff, which SBs fast in open world content and CM.

You're complaining about the materia for Novus? There are alternative i110 weapons that are far easier and faster to get than a Novus. The best weapons in the game (i115) are dungeon drops.

Armor? Again, the best armor comes from dungeons.

Regardless, it's not like there's anything preventing you from leveling a DoH and getting "rich".
This is the most intelligent post in this thread.

I want my Novus, still working on animus.
I do it for the story, you're unveiling a special weapon that really makes it special and matches your job. It's really cool.
However, I am hearing a lot of issues with Novus materia...being poor myself, I believe I will be reaching a really hard hurdle coming up.

Spend myth and GC seals on materials to sell, turning in equipment from dungeons for seals. Use these funds to buy level 45-50 spiritbond gear and bind them at Urth's Font, doing leves, or CM. Keep the materia you need, sell that you don't, use any excess funds to purchase materia.

Those aren't the only hampered players. I was running dungeons with lv 70 gear, 6 items all grade 4 material at least 1 the savage might I needed. Now I am forced to sb low level garbage at Urths if I want any grade 4's and I have spent more time and sd'ed 3x as many items as I would have needed to finish my novus before, only now I have gotten 0 materia that are of use to me, and most useless to even sell. It's sent me back from getting novus in 1 more day to getting it in a week if I am willing to sb 8 hours a day the entire time.

grade 4 can be obtained from lower level items but it's long harder more tedious more boring and a bigger pain in the ass. I went from 18 grade 4's a day to 0 in 2 days. The sb'ing faster means jack shit, other than will have more worthless materia

I'm replying to you as you seem to know how spiritbonding works. I unfortunately know very, very little about SB'ing. I am, however, currently doing my Novus quest. And thus will need tier 3 and 4 materia soon enough. I was planning on trying to convert some of my old gear to try and save gil. So what is the best level gear to use if I'm after tier 3 and 4 materia? And is there anything I can do to improve my chances of getting that tier? I was under the impression that slotting low level materia into gear (which has slots, obviously) helps produce higher tiered materia when it is converted. Is this true?

Anything level 45+ will get you both III and IV. 45-49 accessories are cheap, and you can bond them quickly on level 45+ mobs anywhere, and also in the 45+ dungeons. If you have an artisan crafter friend, you can get ilvl90 gear relatively cheap (I'll sell left side 6 piece sets to FC members for 250k) and they will get you better materia on average.

HQ and materia makes the gear spiritbond faster, nothing more. 20% for HQ, 20% per materia in it.

huh? I *think* you are suggesting you can only get tier 4 materia from SB lower level gear in urths, but that is not the case. You can still get it from anything i46 or above. It's just not 100% from i70 anymore (which I personally am not a fan of) Also, if you are getting so much worthless materia there is always take it to gobbie and have him change 5 of the worthless into 1. Kind of a crappy option but if you have that much worthless materia then still an option.

    Summary:

From this we can gather a few things.

    • Gear will SB 19 levels below the mobs' level and 18 levels above
    • Bonding 'peaks' at exactly 10 levels below the mob
    • Bonding 15-8 levels below the mob gives a huge increase to SB rate
Overall bonding seems to have gotten a nice boost until you bond items 8 levels over the mob
TLDR: Research the proper iLVL ranges, SB in the correct content, and you will actually see a significant increase in overall SB rate / materia yielded. And particularly relevant to this thread:

So what does this mean for those worrying over novus? I'd advise against buying materia atm as most servers seen a jump in price due to speculation over the new rates. However looking at these numbers, the supply of materia I's and II's will almost double while the supply of III's (and by virtue IV's) will see around a 30% increase if your server's market is healthy. So wait a bit as chances are prices will drop lower than they were pre-patch as the supply starts kicking-in
The exact percentages are tough to pin down, but I agree with his general conclusion.

Just like every economy the best way to make money is a moving target. Every patch will require adjustments to how you make money. This will always be true, you cannot get mad that things change on occasion. There will always be ways to make gil, sometimes you have to get creative. If I have been making a ton of gil on my my mythril rings for a month until someone else realizes they can too, I can't be mad that my profit drops. The market is an ever-changing competitive system and sometimes your best way of making money is going to dry up. All you have to do is change the way you spiritbond, big deal. Those who didn't panic and rage quit on bonding are loving how much they will now make because so many got out of the bonding game.

And stop saying you NEED tier IV for novus, no you dont. If you want the very very best possible stats, yeah it will cost more.
