As a DoW/M, ALL of the gear up to iL110 are given FREE.

Other then relic weapon for relic quest, there is nothing a crafter can make that is a must have by DoW/M, and even the best iL90 gear a crafter can make are useless because of hunts. And even on the relic weapon, some can only be made with drops from dungeons.

So, other then a show of "pride", why do DoW/M need to have a massive gil chest? Isn't your free iL110 sets good enough?

This is in relation to getting materia. You can't convert that free gear you speak of into materia.
