    Remove Elemental Resistance? More Changes to Spiritbonding Needed?

    Does anyone actually care about Elemental Resistance? It seems like a giant waste and is probably ignored by everyone anyway. It has it's own tab (besides the other resistances) which serves no real purpose and we are coming close to 1 year into the game with it being almost entirely useless.

    Which brings me to the next point of having the materia for all of them show up in spiritbonding which is terrible. Having the materia you get be random is one thing, but having so much useless materia just skews the results so much that it's seriously a pain. Meanwhile crafting/gathering are narrowed down strictly to materia that applies to them, which makes sense and is how it SHOULD BE.


    Tier 4 CRIT and DET go for ABSURD prices on my server, so if I want them for Novus I would have to spend well over 7 million on materia, not counting failures. Is that really what they expected people to do?

    So what's the alternative for someone who doesn't want to spend 7 million? You need to SB Tier 3 gear for a small chance at a Tier 4, but you are already against the odds of FOURTEEN different materia, compared to Crafting's THREE. Or you SB higher level gear that takes way longer but at least you're getting Tier 4s but you're still going up against terrible odds to get what you want.

    Removing Elemental Resistance at least gets rid of 6 possible materia (down to 8). So the next step would be to get rid of tank materia on gear that is clearly meant for DPS, there's no reason for me to get Parry materia on DPS equipment. It would make a lot more sense if the possible materia for DPS gear is STR, ACC, CRIT, DET, SKL SPD. That's still FIVE different materia compared to DoH/DoL's THREE that I would have to randomly get.

    And Tier 4 Gathering/Crafting materia is still pretty expensive, so the effect on the economy probably wouldn't matter too much.

    I'm literally sitting on my Alexandrite now because I refuse to spend 7 million+ on Tier 4 materia and I am having no luck with SBing, not to mention how long it would take to actually GET all the materia even if I was fortunate enough to get the ones I want.

    No one is going to give up an actual useful stat slot for resistance, unless someone was trying to be a special snowflake. Untill they give them their own slots they will forever be useless.

    The way the game is now (where BLMs are casting Fire on Ifrit and Thunder on Ramuh just fine), yeah, these materia really have no reason to exist.

    just saying, the materia system was almost unchanged from the V1 to the 2.0... then let's say it's not adapted to the actual game, most of the materia (main stat+resistance) are most of the time useless, but still we can get them. i had wish they had added new skill for class throught this system.

    like you can get sometime rare materia that for blm give them a new spell or such... nope, we have this old system that need a major rework that still hurt badly the game but well.

    I honestly feel like they're put there in place of a chance to fail a conversion. Since you can't fail converting gear, there has to be a chance to get nothing (or garbage, which is the resistance materia) so that you don't get good stuff every time you convert. So, instead of 50% chance to get something good and 50% chance your item blows up, you have a 50% chance of getting something good and a 50% chance of getting crap materia. I just made those numbers up, obviously, but you get the point. Grind is grind.

    Elemental resistance materia exists because there has to be a "booby prize" for converting gear. If every ticket wins the lottery, the guys running the lottery would go broke. (I know it's not a perfect analogy.)

    Besides, materia transmutation exists for you to get a second chance at better materia.

    EDIT: Also it helps for spiritbonding the next gear since it gives +20% spiritbond rate. I'd feel bad if I had to meld something useful/worth money in order to spiritbond faster.

    They make good burner materia to improve spirit-bonding speed and desynthesis chances. I hate using "real" materia for those purposes even if they're as cheap on the marketboard as elemental stuff.

    I'm sorry but that is a hell of a lot of "booby prizes" to go through to even try and get what you want on DoW / DoM jobs.

    It is a joke right now, I've SBed countless sets of armor to try and get the Tier 4s of DET / CRIT and have not got a single one, and yet I need something like 19+ between the two.

    And it bothers me more because of the DoL and DoH do not have the same problem at all in regards to the "booby prizes", you have a 1/3 chance of getting what you want in terms of materia type at least. That means 2/3 is their "booby prize". Compared to 2/14 what I want for DoW and 12/14 "booby prizes".

    It is terrible and should be addressed / more people should be complaining about it so something is done.
