Did you read the part of the original post where it said this person had WHM and at least 5 DoH classes at 50 already? That hardly seems like someone that we should be treating as if they were brand new. Personally, as a newbie I would've never thought of wearing gathering/crafting gear on a combat class. Everything I wore was class appropriate because that's what you're supposed to wear. The game even pushes you that way with quest rewards. It's more experienced players that realize that you can wear DoL/DoH gear in order to spiritbond (or troll, whichever).

Spiritbonding crafting gear can be quite profitable. A single copperbell run can give a return of up to about 150k gil. And as you can easily do about 2 runs an hour, you can generate up to 300k gil for a single hour's worth of effort. Of course as some of the materia you'll obtain will be rather crappy, on averag a return of roughly 180k per hour is to be expected on Odin.

Still, not a bad way to generate income. There's few other options which drive income in such a fashion. And as long as DPS follows the basic kill order you set, it's pretty much trouble free. As someone indicated before in this topic, you can run copperbell mines practically naked if desired. And don't forget, the DoH/L gear does have stats on it. Heck, on a fully equiped DoH/DoL gear character I tend to have a higher defense / magic defense rating than many PUG tanks I have in random low level roulettes who often have just a few leveled pieces on and the rest being gear from around 10 levels lower. The difference truly lies just in attributes.

With the spiritbonding changes introduced by today's patch, I'm not sure how effect spiritbonding DoH/L gear still is in dungeons.
