    Personally speaking, Summoner is my favorite class in the game. I really the combo of Dot and pet mechanics. There are some aspects I would like improved, sure, such as the contributions rotation wise our Egi make, and allow more freedom when it comes to what summon we use, rather then being stuck with one. Overall though I think that class works very well, and I think an overhaul of its mechanics would be a sad thing.

    I must admit, I just do not understand the 'It dose not feel like a summon' quotes some players state. How is a Summoner meant to feel? I seem my character with and using a summon in battle, and that seems like a Summoner to me. Sure, it may not be like FFX, but then I would doubt my party would like it if they had to take five as my Aeon defeated the boss single-handedly! Besides, FFXIV ARR is a game in its own right. It should not be out to 'copy' any past jobs, it should strive to make them unique and interesting in there own right. As I said above, I would like it if they did more with the Egi but I just think it would be an awful shame if they did re-work the job, especially when most of the complaints seem to revolve around aesthetic issues rather then the core gameplay mechanics.

    The issue with the Summoner is it focuses on dot management rather then summon management.

    I use solely Garuda and HA Book and never struggle breaking over 400 on T6 or T8 and can do over 400 on T9. Ilvl110 atm. Garudas use is not simply Contagion but shes also a tremendous benefit to saving you MP which is much better used in Ruin 2s and Shadow Flare upkeep. Using the Ifrit egi greatly dampens your overall ability unless you have a bard solely dedicated to you for mp/ foes requiem.

    my biggest concern, and as a relatively new player, is how boring the summoner is. If SE is just going for a good version of the WoW warlock, I guess its ok (warlock is better). But why do that when they have their own cannon and lore that kicks the shit outta that in terms of interest and power. Why go with the weaksauce instead of fully realizing the summoner.

    Yuna from FFX makes these puds we've been given look like a joke, and everyone with the right materia from FF7 as well. This complaint similarly goes for Black Mages and the lack of spells like Ultima and Meteor to name the biggest. This feels like they opted for generic WoW clone #89481494941 (PVP, Factions, Class balance in favor of realized full potential and true specialization). If they just wanted to copy cat a recipe with FF frosting on the WOW cake, score, but I don't think I am going to last long here, not enough that makes it special and not nearly enough Final Fantasy in it for me.

    Edit: It has been pointed out to me that meteor exists as a level 3 limit break. Still want to cast Ultima and see summoners and their pets be more impressive tho.

    To be unique isn't impossible as your post would imply just because it is an MMO doesn't mean it must adhere to the same staid formula. Not every FF that was a single player RPG was good either, that ended at FFX.

    So instead of basing class design on a series of RPG games that ARR is based on, not to mention created by the same people and company, we should base it on the MMO that came before, that the devs explicitly said they didn't want to base it on?
