Certainly a valid score, but man they're dumb. Right before overhauls, 10 months after the official release... there is no more improper time to review an MMO.

Yeah right. 10months later, and theres still a broken system. whatever. Die hard I guess.
I cant wait for the "Golden patch" I expect a mediocre cut/paste dungeon, a few peices of equally lame gear. And some cheesy tank and spank boss fights. 3-4weeks of content at best.

10 months is plenty of time to get some stuff in play. Bottom line, this dev team is serously under staffed and it shows. Ive gotten more patches/content/hotfixes in 2 months of rift than my whole time on ffxiv combined.

Rift is well rift, and it plays like pretty much everything else in the post 2004~era, and while it does a few things differently, and I'll agree they have a very good dev team that listens to the community and they pump out some great patches quickly. Still though XIV is an entirely different beast, and I applaud SE for doing things different, albeit it bit them in the ass since it was unfinished and its taking awhile to make it proper.

I lay the blame on Tanaka though for not listening to the community. Yoshi-P is doing an outstanding job, and is quite communicative and understanding.

My counter was the the statement that 10 months isnt enough time for an MMO to get their junk fixed. I listed a noob mmo company that did that and more.

A noob MMO with extremely high financial backing that copied almost everything from many different MMOs, go Trion....Oh if Rift had a crap launch Im sure it would have failed and died but not trying anything new mixed with a lot of money kept that from happening.

Your totally right, because SE does not have high financial backing....or years of experience behind them. And your arguments that because Trion copied other successful mmos somehow makes my original statement invalid. Ok, that is about the same reasoning level as me getting bent at SE for copying Mana and Cure from other RPG's. Ideas come from somewhere, Trion just happened to gather them From EQ/GW/WoW.

In the end...you still haven't managed to put up an intelligent counter my original statement. 10 months is plenty of time to get something done with this game. But hey, in three days....I'll be wrong....maybe.

Comparing Rift to FFXIV is like comparing a banana to my mom's vibrator. Can they both serve the same purpose? Sure. But obviously one was designed to be fully functional from the get go.

My point is, disturbing analogy aside, is that Rift can pump out 2 to 3 times the content because they were satisfied with the end product the put out. SE failed to do that, as we all know. Yoshi has said that to create anything brand new to the game, it takes about 6 months of development time from start to finish. This is why we are languishing in the state we are in. We can only hope that the next few months, the new team will start pumping out some of that content they have been promising.

Never said you where invalid, I even mentioned FFXIV didn't deserve a good review, all I said is Rift isn't fun for everyone. If you like rift so much then go play it, more power to you. But bringing up Rift as a comparison to FFXIV is stupid and makes no sense. If rift had a bad launch and had to completely redisign the game mechanics then you could compare them, but it didnt so there is nothing to compare other then the fact that they are both MMORPGs
