Based on what was said in the last LIVE letter, The gold saucer's purpose will be to remove gil from the economy. So of course the rewards will need to be worthwhile otherwise no one will bother.

I'm speculating that the Golden Saucer's games will involve gil, in which you can play games, in which will award you tokens on performance, in which can be converted for prizes.

Exactly what I'm hoping for just a fun place to go play mini games, card games and race chocobos with other players. Nothing serious just simple fun.
