Okay, so it seems my ragey comment was deleted on this thread.
Let me put this in a way that is meant not to cause offence, but get the point across (as the original post was):

SE, you are ostracising and segregating a vast portion of your player base by NOT providing a live translator for these events.
I, as a long time Final Fantasy fan, and a paying customer, was very excited to hear about a 14 hour live letter. And then the disappointment set in when I realised it was another event with no translation.

I understand that 14 hours is a long time to live translate. I personally would be happy with a drop-in-drop-out translator for the important stuff. Heck even one of the staff who can speak english.. say whatever the news is in Japanese, quickly say in english, so we all get the idea.

If you are going to post live letter schedules/event schedules on EU/NA side of the website, with GMT/EST listed times, I would like to see some sort of effort made.

Don't misunderstand me, I am very happy with the game, I am happy to pay out my monthly subscription, and even buy some extra optional services. I'd simply like some more consideration when it comes to these things. It just seems short of taking a Japanese language master course, I am doomed to wait for (often inaccurate) forum posts or posts on other sites for the information provided.

Let me just say one thing to the OP and only to the OP hopefully he understand what I mean.

Research, and you will see why things like this are not translated, and why every single little thing isn't translated that comes out of FFXIV Staff.

After that, feel free to post a meaningful post with facts and such.

a very very slight hint...this original post has something to do with it

Yes it is a Japanese game and then localized into english. Doesn't matter that is released everywhere else at the same time.

Some game companies have 2 divisions. A NA and JP one. Nintendo is like this. Whenever they want to bring new and exciting info to the table a English speaking rep from NA comes to the plate. Perhaps with so much going on and translations being very difficult why can't we just have a NA dev rep like Nintendo has? That way Yoshida can just speak to the JP community and the NA rep / dev can speak to the NA English speaking community. TBH our community is already kinda divided anyways. Look at how the regional servers are setup. Sure you can play on any server you like but do you really want to? Most of us would like to play with others that speak our native language and we do. I don't translate at all but it seems to be a big pain in the A from what I've seen and I think things would be better if we finished the separation and just kept the two camps divided.

No one is excluded from FFXIV ARR unless the country isn't officially supported. You get all of the important information during and after.

They post all of the info - People would complain if they don't allow NA/EU to watch or in decent hours.

Now you see how it feels when Eastern based fanbases have to wait for western based information on the MMO they may play.

Well, it might not be an full transcript of the Letter of the Producer Live, but our friendly neighbourhood Community Reps do give a translated Q&A of each letter while the Live Letter is being broadcasted as well as a Q&A Summary later on (in multiple languages).

    You can find them here:
    Letter from the Producer LIVE
    Community Events > Past Events

So, please don’t say that we get no translation of these Live Letters.

When Yoshida is doing an interview with f.i. an English website/magazine or when he’s holding a Live Letter at the E3, he usually has a translator/interpreter available (like Fernehalwes). If they do a Live translation of the Letter, they either need to make the Live Letter twice as long (since Fernehalwes has to translate everything Yoshida says) or cut the content for the Live letter in half in order to have it fit their available broadcast time.

    Which would you prefer?

I personally don’t think they want to make the Live Letter twice as long, or cut on it’s content so that the Live Letter can be translated on the spot.

The way they are doing it is fine (in my opinion), but i would like to see the Q&A Summary to be released sooner. Maybe a few days after the Live Letter, rather than a few weeks after the broadcast. I would also like to see the regular Letters of the Producer again, which they released at least once a month.

    A day is honestly insanity.
If you ever translated something you know what i am talking about. It's not just understanding what is being said. It's taking those words and turning them into an understandable other language that might be completely different in every possible respect (english-japanese is a great example here)
Then you have to write that all down.

I say about a week or so unless they actually hired professional translators.

edit - Post in reply to Tupsi a few posts up.

1 - No need to go grammar ninja on it. My point was clear enough. I refer to an earlier post by someone about the 4 actual events english speaking members have been included in.

2 - If it's going to be posted on the English side of the Lodestone, I stand by my original comment, ie we should have some sort of translation options. And no, looking at the pretty pictures while someone speaks Japanese is NOT providing important information during.

3 - The point about Eastern Based fan bases is moot and irrelevant. The information is Eastern based, and slowly trickles through to the waiting Western members. And I'm not sure I mentioned any other game :./

All in all, the point stands, and is valid and supported by many other members. We pay the money, we expect the service. If it's going to be aimed mainly at Japanese audience, with no english, don't damn well post the information on the EU side of things.

    1. It was the definition - You basically stated that SE is excluding people when they actually aren't..which is why they do it when a lot of Japanese are still actually working or heading to bed (late hours versus NA early hours for example.)

    2. You do have translation options - the NA/EU rep team post the translations as the event happens, it's just not "live" translation. The Summary is the only thing that takes a bit of time to come out as they need to do a bit more with it.

    3. How is it irrelevant? If the game you play is ran by people who only speak English and hold events and streams in English, that leaves out the foreign players who may also play it as the stream/event would only be in English.

We pay the money, we expect the service.
Can you or can you not play FFXIV ARR right now?
