Hmm. . . if I'm not mistaken, that's just an older way of saying it. It's the same thing that makes the quote "I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds" instead of "I have become. . . " It's much less common in modern English, but used to be the correct way of doing things.

Yerp. This is yet another archaism we pepper in every now and then for flavor. I could quote some Shakespeare and scripture, but I think I'll leave the googling to you.
